Hidden Hinge Help!

Hi

I've been making mini albums for a while now and I love Kathy Orta's hidden hinge binding system but I find that the hinge keeps peeling away from the spine! I use scor tape and I burnish like nobodies business but every time the hinge comes away from the spine. I've started leaving the part of the hinge that goes over the spine free floating on purpose which is working brilliantly for regular mini albums but I've just started a gatefold album which needs the hinge to stay attached to the spine (I think?) and it's already started peeling off without any pages attached! Help! This is driving me insane!

What material are you using? Does the tape stick one side and not the other?
Maybe you need a super glue.

I'm using a variety of different things for hinges including pattern paper and card stock ( 240gsm weight). I back the card stock with Tyvek once I've created the hinges. The hinges "wings" stick down really well it's just the spine area that seems to peel away when the pages are turned.....although with this latest album it just seemed to start peeling immediately :/
Does super glue work on paper? I thought it was created to stick people back together !

Hi, and welcome.
First, I must say that I am not familiar with the Scor tape brand...so I don't know how strong it is.
I always use red line tape when I want something to hold.
It is a very strong double sided tape! It has never let me down.

I feel that score tape (aka sookwang tape) is as strong as if not stronger than the red tape. I use a spot or two of liquid glue at stress points. And yes I love Kathy Ortas albums.
Also watch "Follow the Paper Trail" He "stack the deck mini album" is very innovative.

HI Sian,
I am wondering if your pages are heavier with lots of flaps or pockets if maybe wider "wings" or maybe score the width of the folds a little wider. It sounds like a weight a disbursement issue you may have to play with it a little more. Also look on you tube under hide hinge, there are people who have had your issue and come up with variations. I am particularly fond of Scrap so much. She has a variation but sells it in her its shop however she does a fantastic job on her tutorials.

As for Scor Tape and red tape I have both and find them equally strong as well.
