Cutter for chipboard

I am looking for thoughts on cutters that go through thicker chipboard to make mini album covers. I have looked at framer mat cutters both the Dahl and the Carl but the price point is off putting.

I am wondering if they are worth the cost or if anyone has other suggestions. I am a seriously cutting challenged to which I blame my left handedness on so needless to say using an Xacto knife and ruler has disastrous results.

The trick to cutting chipboard with a craft knife is not trying to cut thru on the first pass. The first pass should be not much more than a scratch, but enough to easily see where you want to cut. Then you can remove the guide device and the blade will follow the track. My X-acto knife is my most used trimmer.

Jill, I have the Carl DC-212 and it slices through chipboard easily.
I do love my Carl and yes, they are expensive ($120 here), but I have always thought it was worth the cost for the amount of use I have given it over the years.

Use a guillotine style cutter. There are several available here at the superstore.

I (being a lefty) use a cutting mat, acrylic ruler, and olfa rotary cutter for 85% of my cutting needs. They all add up to about the same as the Carl.......which I know nothing about. Still I have used mine for 25+ years so the cost works out to be pennies a day over that time!!!

I use a guillotine style cutter for chipboard as well. Got it at Staples and spent, I think, $30 on it. I've had it for years and it still cuts very well.
