Opinions needed on purchase of Misti

I'm having a conundrum here and I need some well intended advice. After seeing the Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform I was pretty excited about purchasing it. However, the arrival time on SB, ACOT, and other sites have put it off from April to June now. I am wondering if there is manufacturing problems or what.
So the question is: would you purchase the Misti and not wait? (it's possible that it could be put off until who knows when)

I think that MISTI"s creator is suing Tim Holtz.. Or so I have heard. Would I wait? No, even if this gossip is untrue I want things now. LOL, but this is the gal that walked out of Jason's Deli last night because I had a big wait with no one acknowledging my presence.

I saw something on FB (and we all know that everything on there is true!) that there was a problem with the ruler on the TH item. I have the MISTI, so I didn't read what the problem was...just that there had been complaints, so it was being reworked a bit.

I would wait for the TH platform.
It's cheaper than the Misti and takes up less space.

Actually I did google about the lawsuit and there definitely is one. The woman that makes Misti has sued other similar manufacturers that tried to make or copy her Misti. She won until they changed their design. She now has a lawsuit against Tonic & TH for the same reason. They may never get this item on the market.

There is also STAMP PERFECT, a little smaller but in Michaels and much cheaper w/the coupon....

I use the Stamp Perfect, it is 9x6 with a foam pad for stamping area that is 5.5x7.5 I have also used it to stamp on 12x12 papers as the pad makes it level with the ruler along the side which makes it easy to work the larger paper around to stamp! I did not need to pay the Misti price!!

Which did not answer your question about the TH platform. I am a great fan of all TH products!!

I am so conflicted on this. On one hand, I like to support entrepreneurs especially women. These big manufacturers can easily take her design and put her out of business. It happens all the time to small business or designers. Then on the other hand I love tonic studios and their products thus far have been well made.

I guess in the end, you will have to decide which one is best suited to your needs. If it means waiting then wait. In the long run It is usually a better use of your money to buy what will best meet your needs then making due with something less.

Personally, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my MISTI. If you have a chance to get one, go ahead - you won't regret it. There are now three sizes - the mini, which is perfect if you're basically doing cards; the regular original one, which is a bit larger; and now they've come out (or are coming out) with one that will accommodate a 12x12 sheet. I absolutely can't remember getting along without mine. The best thing is that if your stamp doesn't come out perfectly stamped, all you have to do is re-ink it and it will stamp exactly over your original image. I have both the original and the mini and wouldn't part with either.

I have the original MISTI and got our daughter the 12x12. I'm planning on getting that size for me also and probably the original (might check into the mini) for my daughter, since she makes a lot of cards. They are so thin and don't take much room at all...which is what I say about most everything...hence...my overcrowded crafting area(s).

I agree that you should figure out what fits your needs the best. I like to stamp on 12x12 LOs and don't want to worry about creases, so I want the MISTI. I bought the original when it was about the only thing out on the market, but I'd definitely purchase it again.

I don't really stamp enough to justify the Misti price and I have heard too many negative things about the inventor (from people who have met her in person).

A friend posted a link to a YouTube video about making your own. I cannot find the link but it's called: How to make your own Hinged Stamping Tool/ Stamp Positioner. It is easy and in-expensive and I made it in just a few minutes. It works great for my needs.

I have the Misti and it is amazing!!! Very well made...

I have 3 MISITs...all the sizes and love them. But I also preordered the TH one too. I like how the TH one was made. I got a letter from the place I preordered from, the TH platform is delayed, but they are supposed to be releasing a newer model that is not supposed to be impacted by the current lawsuit in late June.

I have the We R Memory Keepers Precision Press, 7" x 7", and I love it! I don't use stamps too much but this tool really helps me and makes me want to stamp more. I wanted the Misti but it's too expensive. Then I found a video review from a vlogger who got both, opened them and used them live. It showed that, despite the WRMK one not having the magnets, it worked as well as the Misti. So I got mine and I don't regret it at all.

I just saw the videos on YouTube about the Hampton Arts and We R Memory Keepers not being manufactured anymore due to the patient infringement with Misti. The stores have been able to sell what they have in stock but will no longer be able to get those products.
I would wait for the results on Tim Holtz stamping platform before making a purchase..... yes the others are very similar to Misti but T H is not. The concept is the same but quite a few changes to the design. I will probably get a TH as soon as they are available!!!

How did all of these die cut companies get their metal dies manufactured when many are so similar to Spellbinder??? The concept is pretty much the same even when the shape/design is not!

I imagine that for the die cut companies it's actually an added bonus that the dies work on all platforms (sizzix, spellbinders, wrmk, etc).
If you're a die/machine manufacturer it means that customers who didn't buy your machine can still buy your dies and you make more revenue.
The machine in this scenario is not the main source of revenue.

In the case of stamping platforms (misti, tim holtz platform, wrmk stamping precision tool) there is only one product: the platform itself, and therefore it makes more sense to go to court over copyright infringement on that, since a platform bought from a competitor means no money for you.

Misti (My Sweet Petunia) did come out with an ingenious idea!!
