UnMounted Stamp Storage

I have a question about this. I notice alot of you are storing what looks to be your woody stamps the same way you would store acrylic stamps. But how are you attaching them to a block to SB? Do you just use your acrylic blocks and throw away the wooden blocks. Cause I have some beautiful wooden stamp sets but hate that they take up so much space!

I use Aleene's Tack It Over and Over, which you can get at Mike's or Joann's. You just spread it on the back of the rubber, give it an hour or so to dry, then tap it with your hand to get excessive tackiness off. Then it has a "sticky" back that you can take on and off the acrylic block. I store them on clear transparency sheets.

all of my images that came off of wood blocks are now attached to ez mount...which has a sticky side and a side that will "cling" to the acrylic block. Love it.

How are you getting them to stay on EZ Mount and to cling to the acrylic block? Did you put something on the back of the rubber image? IF so, what did you use and where did you get it?

EZ Mount comes in sheets with a peel-off backing on both sides. Remove your stamp from the wooden block (I used Un-Du and it worked really well). Make sure the glue-side of the stamp is completely cleaned of residue and is dry. Cut off a piece of EZ Mount from the sheet--just enough to fit the stamp. Peel the backing off the adhesive side and press the stamp onto it. Using a pair of sharp scissors trim away all excess backing. Next peel off the paper from the other side of the EZ Mount that your stamp is stuck on. This exposes the smooth side that will stick to your acrylic mounts just like any acrylic stamp.

An illustrated instruction sheet comes with the EZ Mount sheets which shows you how to do all this.

If you like to store your stamps in binders or a Scrap Rack, you can also get Stamp N' Store 3-hole panels to which your stamps will cling for storage. If you're really organized, the panels have index tabs on them which you can label.

I hadn't even thought of this! I have a drawer full of stamps I rarely use because it's difficult to search through them. thanks for this thread!

Am I understanding that you are REMOVING the rubber stamp from the wooden blocks??? If so, how?????

ok this sounds cool but what can we do w/our wooden blocks? I would hate to throw those away!

It's been quite a while since I did this so I don't remember EXACTLY how I did it. It was not very difficult though, depending on the brand of stamp. Some came off very easily and others required some patience. I suppose the difference is the kind of glue that the manufacturer used originally. I put Un-Du around the edges and then started lifting the edges with a firm, thin, blade-type edge (maybe it was an old table knife) and worked toward the middle until it had all come loose. I believe I usually started at a corner or point of a shape so I could get it started in more than one direction. Once you look at them closely you will probably find that a great many of them have sort of a thin foam cushion under the stamp itself. Don't try to separate them--just take the whole thing. It is so easy to organize them once you get rid of the wood block. I have no ideas for using the leftover blocks. Has anyone else out there come up with anything?

well you can remove the rubber from it, and use a knife to engrave some special characters on it, it can become a nice stamp with hard engravings.

sometimes you can use it to put some sort of a design on cookies or something ( just an idea though)

I just finished doing all of mine last night. Most all of them peeled right off. My thumbs are a little sore (I did a BUNCH). I mounted them on EZ mount. I am storing mine on 8.5x11 chipboard sheets that I covered in white cardstock first, then clear transparency. I got these cool organizers at WM and I have one for each of my categories. I have to go get a couple of more, though because my alphas need more room than the organizer has

I've done a couple of other projects but I can't find pics of them right now.

I just started getting the supplies ready to start this large project of unmounting all of my wood mounted stamps - I have purchased some ezmount and was lucky enough to get a how box of cd cases for $1.00. I had purchased some at staples but they were wrong - the section that holds a cd is not removable to make room for the stamp.

I search you tube for videos on unmounting wood stamps and got a lot of ideas. Some only just removed the rubber and foam which is still sticky and put into cd case. I may do that for some of the stamps I don't use as much - but for those that I use a lot I will mount using the ezmount. I have about 100 sets from stampinup. I don't know what I will do with the wood either. Hubby says to have a bonfire.
