scrapping without pictures?

Has anyone ever completed a page that was just journaling? How did you embellish it?

Yes, Calx, I did. When I started my son's first album, the very first page was titled, "How Your Dad and I Met." It was a two-page layout and unfolded the story that his Dad and I were in the Marine Corps and met at Parris Island. It told of our courtship, our marriage, my pregnancy with my son and how I felt during the pregnancy. It described the first place we lived on the base, a tiny trailer the size of a small camper. It described how when I went into labor, my husband was on duty, so I had to drive myself to the nearest hospital. It told him how happy I was to have a son like him. He's 40 now, but loves to read the story over and over.

Forgot to say that I used paper that looked like camouflage material for the background, and a military green matting (the color of the Marines fatigue uniform). I typed the journaling on a lighter marbelized green paper. It looked great!

I am in the process of doing the LAST PAGE in my nephew's album!!! It is going to be a letter, telling him how his mother and I used to - blah blah blah. Anyway. I think I am just going to use a patterened paper that looks like a sheet of yellow legal notebook paper, and not use any embellishments, except maybe a sticker or two.

When I was using strap-hinge pages, I accidently did a layout on the back of one. I used the same embellishments that I did on the other 2 pages and wrote REALLY BIG!! LOL

I do pages that I don't have photos for all the time - all those stories you have about your kids that there are no pictures for. I usually do a paper-piecing that relates to the story. For example, on a page that I told the story of my son Jacob bedtime routine, I pieced a Precious moments boy holding a bear next to a bed I made from a stamp catalog picture. I made a window with curtains and typed the story. When I show the page to people, sometimes they don't even register that there is no photograph on the page. For a trip we took to Flagstaff, I made up an Indian legend to tell the tale and pieced a tiny Indian woman holding a baby and a tiny teepee for the first letter of the story. I would highly reccommend putting every story you tell about you or your family in your scrapbook, even if you have no pics to speak of.

Hey everyone I think what you are doing is great never thought of it. I have some great pics of my kids and grandkids doing some cute and naughty things but not enough to do 2 page spreads and some not even enough to do 1. So this gives me the chance to really tell the stories behind the pics and also what my sbs are all about. THANKS!
