Ugly Paper

I RECYCLE....EBAY is good....buy my handmade paper is AWESOME!!!

it might sound like alot of work...but its fun for me and the kids....and makes great gifts...here's what you do

cut it up into little pieces..propably and inch to an inch and a half or so.....(depending on what color you want to come out with...that determines what colors you use)....

soak in water overnight

put in blender and make pulp

lay out on a screen

after it dries...you have textured paper...

you can add anything to it while it is drying....dried flowers....metal embellishments....even dryer lint...(looks awesome)...you can add food coloring ..... the sky's the limit......................I am making mothers day cards like this except I am adding herb seeds to the cards (actually small cards/tags)....using washable markers on it....the cards will be attached to an "altered" mini flower pot with a baggie of soil.......Mom will plant the card itself and have a nice little pot of herbs

The stuff I no longer want or use (ugly paper included) I donate to the children's hospital so they can use them for crafts. They are always looking for craft supplies, and it makes a child happy.

Great ideas. I just let my kids play with it, or try to sand, ink, tear, and practice new techniques!

I bought paper like a year or more ago that I don't like now but just cause I don't doesn't mean my family doesn't like it. So I give it to my SIL's and they love it!!!

I've got a pizza box filled with Ugly paper... if I run out of white (to matt pictures, draft paper, cut stencils out) I flip the ulgy side over and use the reverse. Or if I'm painting I use it as my drop cloth. LOL Then again, my mom just went through it last week and took nearly have the lot!!!!

Yes...I have ugly paper. It is dirt brown and came in a pack. Someday I can hopefully use it.

And I HATE heavily patterned papers. I think they are wayyyyy too busy on some pages.

well when i started doing a 8½x11 christmas album a few years ago i bought some open stock paper that at the time I thought was christmasy...now I promise you ive never done drugs but man youd think I was that day...this stuff isnt even christmasy!!! lol..there is one that has green christmas type trees (like in forest trees, not decorated you know) but its actually like hunting paper or something...and some stuff that is paisly...what was I thinking!!!! i think there might be a few in slab iii but not many

I get rid of some but I use the back of most of it for white backgrounds, mats, letters, etc.

Some of the pieces in the slabs and stacks fall in this category but eventually, you find a way to use them. I used a piece of the basket weave from the slab as a fireplace. I chalked other colors into it so it actually looked like bricks. It turned out cute, especially coming from that big piece of paper that didn't look like something I would ever use.

LOL I bought a whole bunch of 10 cent a sheet paper from the LSS when they go thru and clean out...alot of it was like what was I thinking. But I just keep it anyways. I let DD make pages with it.

I LOVE PAISLEY! LOL i tend to like some ugly paper...I don't think its ugly though.

Does anyone else have a category in your paper storage labled "UGLY PAPER"? I do! What do you do with gosh awful ugly paper? I've got some that Shrek himself wouldn't use.

LOL, I recently pulled a stack I bought years ago and it looks and feels like cheap wrapping paper,it is loud and garish and yuck, probably would not be bad for wrapping presents, and just apologize like heck, anyhow, yep, i got me some ugly paper.

I keep it seperate and use it for either the white on the other side or to lay down underneath what I am working on if it is messy. Some times I give it to my ds to use for his "art"

I dont have any yet but I think Ill have some. I bought some that was printed like a scarf. The basic work kind old men blow their noses on. I was thinking of a western theme. I might use it for Halloween..

You know, maybe we should have an ugly paper swap! I'm in one for patterned paper - we just mail it to the next person on the list and they swap out whatever they want and replace with the exact number of pages they took! You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure!!

2 suggestions I've read are use the back or make them into deco squares. Some of them aren't so bad cut up and in small doses.

I gave some paper that I wouldn't use to my cousin so she could make "crafts"

Ya, I have some that was given to me and I've used parts of it for serendipity squares.

i bought some of that on purpose!

have pics of my dad on a horse in his front yard when he was 8....
but, yes, i have tons of ugly papers... stuff that comes in a stack, mixed varieties off of Ebay... once in a while i find pics that would go perfect with something i cant wait to get rid of

fortunately though, i never got into buy it cuz its cheap trend, or the sticker trend for that matter... so my stash isnt unruly.

I use paper like that for photo mats - like Karen said - it's not so bad in small amounts. With a photo mat, all you have is the very edge of color - not the garish pattern

I use mine for photo mats, also. Thin mats. You can hardly see it and it saves your "good" paper. I also have sold some on ebay, but I supplement with pretty papers, too.

LOL! I loved that paper and just had a layout I used it on picked up for publication, lol!!! oh well, we all have different tastes, don't we???

When I do a "sorting" of my paper I usually give it away or put it in a basket just for this purpose at my LSS! like someone else said, one scrapper's "ugly" paper might be used for another scrapper's "masterpiece", lol!!!

Sorry but I dont know anything about making paper. The paper wont fall apart once it dries?

I am sooo sorry...you add a about a teaspoon of unflavored gelatin to the mixture....(just dissolve it in the spoon with a couple of drops of hot water first)....and that takes care of it!!!!!!)

I give my uglies AKA stuff I bought like a year or more ago that is just AWFUL now...to my kids to draw on. Sometimes as the "dropcloths" when I ink or paint.

Ooooo I have some really ugly evergreen paper, too, and some that looks like tan lizard skin. I'm sure someone could make a really classy lo with that, but I haven't had the inspiration yet. Maybe we should have an "Ugly Paper lo Contest", LOL.

Of course the ugly paper swap might be interesting too.
