SVG organizing

Hi,

I have alot of svg files saved on my computer and I never can remember what I have or find it when I need it. Whats yall's suggestion on how to organize them?

I have a folder on my HD and then within that I have folders with categories. That's the best I've come up with. I THINK there's a program you can buy or something that will help with that too.

I struggle with that too. I just try to name them as close to what they are or what will help me find it the easiest. Like if it is any type of circle, I use the word circle fisrt then followed by any other description, circle scallop, circle flourish, circle w/hearts etc. Any type of title gets the word title first then I put in the words- Title-happy Birthday, Title-merry christmas.
Then I make sure in the SVG folder on my comp that it is always alphabetical, then when I click import SVG in my program, they are still alphabetical. I have MTC and it shows a pic of the file when you click it, so that helps too. Dont know if SCAL has that function?
But even with that, I still feel overwhelmed when searching for a SVG! I have about 1500.

I save my svg files on my computer by name, but I thought I'd want to see what patterns I have while I'm scrapbooking. I am one who likes to see it on paper, so I printed each and made a binder of all the files I have. Easy to look through and sometimes it actually helps inspire my pages.

SVG.com has a tutorial about setting up a library to put your files in it. Really helpful and I had over a 1000 files to do. So easy to go to a file and find what your looking for.

I have an icon on my desk top marked SVG's and in it I have different folders for each designer. As I tend to blog my creations I want to credit the SVG file owner. Inside each folder is a sub folder with the name of the cut file. So at Christmas time I bought a nativity scene off a site in came as 3 downloads. So I put all 3 in a file marked Nativity. I know I'll be able to find it next time I want it. I hope this helped.

I am using a file system where you categorize. Example is "food" and if you get a lot of files in this category, you can always add subfolder like "carrots" etc. There are a few around that you can download already set up, then refine to your needs. What I do with each svg is try to include something like the initials of the site or person that I got the file from. Example: "cat (PDC).svg" This tells me that I got the file from Penny Duncan Creations. Then I have a file that is labeled "Terms of use" which stores all my terms of use documents, I look for PDC and now have the TOU info I need for that file. This way I only store one TOU for each place/person but I know which files use it. I also use dropbox to store all my svgs so I can access them if I am at someone elses home or on a different computer and want to use my files.
