Hello, ladies! Earlier, I was trying to come up with a prompt to write an essay about. My teacher gave me a clip art picture of a man painting something quite abstract. I couldn't think of anything. Finally, I thought "Scrapbooking!" I can't believe it took me so long. But anyway, I decided I would post my result up here for any of you who want to read it. Hopefully, my teacher will think it is reasonable. She is a tough grader. By the way, this is just 8th grade english homework. It isn't a project or anything. =D Have a great day!
Prompt: Most adolescents turn to hobbies in order to relax and keep their mind off of stressful school work and chores. Students may find these hobbies to be calming, but teachers and parents might find them to be a waste of time. Prove why your hobby is an important component of your life and why it is not a waste of time.
Here is the essay. Please, excuse any typos. This was all hand written, so I typed it up for you all. It is late and I am tired. =D Okay...here it is:
My parents sometimes complain about how much time I spend on my hobby. Even teachers talk about why our main focus should be school.
Undoubtedly, my preferred hobby is scrapbooking. According to the dictionary, scrapbooking is the hobby of creating compilations in scrapbook albums. To me, however, it is like story telling. These stories are not told with words, though. They are told with photos and a series of embellishments. I have resorted to Scrapbook.com as a source of layout ideas, critique, and communication with scrappers worldwide.
Unfortunately, a great deal of my free time is spent on this craft. Although this may be true, I really do not have a bunch of leisure to begin with. This art also requires money, in the same way that any other hobby does. Because my closet is being used as a craft room, I must find places for the other belongings, that would normally go in the closet. After a few hours of creating, my desk and floor are masked with patterned paper , ribbon, and plastic storage bins like a junkyard's ground is covered with mounds of garbage.
With all of the above stated, scrapbooking is still an efficient use of time and a substantial element in my life. This pastime is my method of rest and relaxation. When I have completed a pageI feel like I have achieved something that I never thought I would be able to acomplish. Scrapbooking helps me to build confidence in an area other that academics or appearance, which are parts I am already quite secure in. Also, this interest is an excellent way to preserve memories.
While I will continue to keep school work my main focus, I will always leave room for my hobby. Teachers and parents should remember that we kids do need to have some fun.
