Modge Podge bubbling.

When ever I use the stuff, it tends to bubble up the paper. What am I doing wrong? Should I be using the MP as the glue as well as the top coat? I'm starting some Christmas projects and it's not putting me in the jolliest of moods!

uh- i use it as glue under and over the stuff I'm putting down. You do have to smooth the bubbles out and apply it fairly thick and give it time to dry. I've used it on both paper and fabric. For some reason I can't get it to stick my ribbon down tho. Hmm.....

What's your under layer that you're gluing to?

the first time i used mod podge i didn't use it as a glue, just the top coat. it bubbled like crazy. so i used it as a glue and it worked good. only bubbled in one spot because i layered 3 sheets of paper in one area and i guess there was too much, not sure.

i use a credit card too, to smooth the paper out flat so there's no bubbles.

I use it as the glue to apply what I am sticking it to. I also just do a light even coat, using a small paint brush. I them smooth over the paper to make sure that is secure and that no air is trapped that would cause the bubbling. When dry I apply a light coat over the entire project. I continue to add coats after each layer dries until I get the look I want.

You need to make sure that the entire underside of the paper you are MP'ing over is completely glued down, so yes, use the MP on the underside aswell and smooth out with a credit card of some sort. Once it's completely dry, you can them MP over it using thin coats, letting it dry compeletely between coats. That should eliminate any bubbling.

do you use the MP only on the underside? I have still been using my regular adhesive and have noticed that I am getting the bubbles when I do that?

I had the same problem until I tried using thin coats instead of thick coats. This seemed to solve this problen as well as the issue of being able to see the brush strokes.

When I do get a bubble it has helped me to wait until the MP is close to dry before I try to flatten the bubble.
