Cricut Cake Maker

What do you guys think about the ability of the Cricut to cut fondue now? I am in awe.

what?!?!? cut fondue--what are you talking about?!?!

are you talking about the cake product called royal fondant? i haven't heard about using the crictu for that! please let us know what you are talking about!

I am thinking by what i have read since seeing this post--girls are taking their deep cut blade--cutting fondunt and the above with the deep cut blade--there is no way, i am taking a food item and A) running it though my machine--to B) mess up my machine and b) have people eat it

And I made this cake once it was in shape of a hot tub and I molded all the people out of fondant and when I was done I was like ew! I would not eat those people... my hands were all over them!

I think the cricut would be cleaner!

If I was going to do this I would be a cake maker and I would have a Cricut just for cutting shapes for food.

Provo Craft is coming out with a Cricut Cake Maker, a red cricut machine that will cut fondant, icing, etc. Doesn't interest me, but I'm not a cake decorator. I'm sure if you are, it will make your job super easy and professional looking. I don't know much more about it but I believe it will be "unveiled" at the CHA show coming up this weekend.

oh my gosh! i will be getting me a cricut cake maker! i do make cakes, and this would make my job SO much easier. I make all of the girls' cakes. in my gallery i just did a digi of my youngest's 3rd birthday party. not only did i make the cake, but i hand painted the sponge bob costume. this would have made it so much easier! i am with the one who said she would have a cricut for cakes and a cricut for paper crafting though.

i just took a peek an di love the machine! need to start saving my money though because that is crazy expensive!

nallian, if you ever wanna know some tricks, please feel free to pm me and i will give you some of my tricks. with that cake, it was all buttercream that i just left rough looking to resemble a spong, then i cut a couple of circles out of fondant for the eyes and then a rectangle for the teeth. used black buttercream to outline some of the parts and add the mouth. really an easy cake.

Gumpaste and fondant are not the same thing. You don't eat gumpaste, but it's great for rolling out with a pasta roller and cutting with the cricut (deep cut blade). I wouldn't send fondant through a cricut.

if you were to get the fontant thin enough and allow to "crust" you might be able to get by with it, but i am with you, i think i would do the gum paste instead of fondant. and you are absolutely right, gp is for decor not eating.

So is gumpaste-what is used for all the fancy decorations you see on wedding cakes and on the TV shows like cake boss? I am learning so much. I thought gumpaste and fondant were similar-sho knew! (well, I guess the word "gum"should have been a clue)

that sounds cool--though--i am not a cake person either---but would be cool for those that are!!

There is a product called Sugarveil that one of the girls on another board is using and I think it was really made for the silloute (sp):( but she has been doing it with the normal E. She thinks the new machine would be so much easier as the blade and the rollers are different. I think there is a video on youtube about that product.

So I am a Pastry Chef of wedding/specialty cakes so this caught my eye. I looked around on
you tube and found this video. She used a Xyron Cutter with sugarvail. I think if your a beginner then sugarvail should be more forgiving for you. As gumpaste can dry very hard but (and this is the problem that the post Nillian put up) while its still wet it is very tacky. It will cake onto blades/knives easily, you cannot really grease the blade since that will diminish the edge and kill what your cutting.
I havent used sugar vail all that much but the other video's on youtube give a lot of great ideas. You can use all your paper cutters to cut that stuff since its then and flexible.
As for sanitation, I dont really see a problem since your usually cutting paper with the machines, as long as its dust free and maybe just keep one blade for paper and one for food, I do not see any problem with using the same machine.

I dont think I would bother with the Cricut since the idea of cartridges does not appeal to me. When I can finally get my Gazelle cutter I will definitely be using it for both. Then I can utilize designs from Word, Publisher and the Net.

The Circut "cake" machine video from the recent CHA showed some features that diffinately make it more food friendly. And of course cricut really downplayed the possibility of using the cake machine for paper and food products.
I would not be surprise if the special cake cutting blade housing doesn't fit into a regular cricut machine.

I hope whoever is doing this is using one machine for food and one for non-food items. I'm sure it works but does not sound very sanitary. LOL

I am excited! I just started getting into cake decorating, so I am excited to use a cricut for that too! Can I use all my carts with that machine??
