What do you do with the leftover cardstock?

I prefer making 5x6.5 cards because that's what Hallmark has brainwashed me into thinking is the standard. The thing is, I'm left with all these random strips of one-inch and two-inch pieces of cs after cutting out the card base. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to use these up? They're really starting to clutter up the joint.

(and, yes, I know that an 8.5x11 sheet makes two 4.25x5.5 cards with no wasted paper - I do make those for notecards)

Do you have border punches? I like to use scraps for decorative edging.
Also, I use them for sentiments.
I did both of those things on this card I just uploaded.

You can also use it like ribbon on a card. Stamp on it to make patterned "ribbon"!

You can also use punches on both sides of the strip like I did here:

Amy, that card is gorgeous. So the border punching is really strips of paper and not a whole mat? Very clever!

Jessica, I used a piece of pp as a ribbon/belt thingie recently, but I hadn't thought about decorating the cs.

I use scraps to embellish on my card. Do you use white cardstock or coloured? Either way, it doesn't matter. I often use up the extra strips and emboss them or just lay them down as a matte and cover it with paper... like this:

Looking through my gallery it seems like I do this a lot more than I realized! LOL!

More great ideas! I guess I just think of cs for card bases and basic matting. It never occurs to me to dress it up.

I, too, have the same problem to the point where I no longer have the room just for scraps. I've used those pieces for diecutting little designs but scraps seem to multiply by themselves. Sometimes I will put small pieces behind my stickers and such if my background has a pattern, then my sticker will pop more. Now I only keep cardstock that is special, like a design on it. The plain stuff I throw away now (shame on me). Once I have used up some of the plain stuff I will start saving again. Yes, I also use cardstock for embellishing as well as for the base of my cards.

I love how you made "ribbon" out of your 1" cardstock. I can't wait to get some new scraps to do this! Thanks for the tip!

I use the strips to make borders for cards as well as scrap pages. These make great title strips on a different colored background page, or make a card with the sentiment stamped on the strip. I have also made bands to go around a set of cards I made for a gift, decorated it with stamping first, then band the cards together. This is an awesome idea place!!

I save my scraps for the holidays. I recycle old Xmas cards and make them into gift tags. The left over cardstock strips are great for putting the To: and From: on and then gluing some fun images from the cards to.

Hi all!

I save my scraps & try to use them for cards (really all I ever do)... I keep my paper & cardstock sorted by color & pull it out when I'm making a card... I also use it (sometimes) to test out new tricks & techniques. And when it gets to be too much, I challenge myself to make 1 or 3 or 5 cards with scraps only.

Today I noticed another way I used my scraps, the bitty long pieces, sliver scraps.

I put them in with my markers or colored pencils for "testing" colors if I have to.

Hi Istory, I keep all my strips of cut-offs and what I do is use a weave method. I weave the strips that I tape to a plastic worksheet at the top and weave the strips by combining different colors or plain to form a piece that I can use, either for a cicle or heart or square. Then once I have the size I need I cut out the shape I want and tape the edges just enough to keep the strips in lace and use the piece for a background or accent piece. I then cut out a frame or border that I glue over it, therefore hiding the edges, but highlighting the weaved design.
