Adhering Transparencies to LOs

So I'm working on a lo and I get this bright idea to print my title out on transparency and when I glue it down the words bleed a bit and get well...not good looking. lol I even used psp to write the words out and mirror them so I could have the shiny side up on the transparency.

What a mess I had to peel the words off and now I had to come up with a way to hide the damage. So not what I envisioned.

There has got to be a better way I do not have experience with transparency this is something new for me. I have seen it in other lo's and it looks so cool I want to use it too darn it! lol

Also in my album I did a lo where I printed a bw photo on a transparency and then used acrylic paint on the back to color in a couple areas. I basically hid the glue where I could but there has just got to be a better way. When you do this technique it's good to have the photo flush with the paper so that the photo shows up well.

I would appreciate any ideas at all thanks!

I just did this and used Glue Dots where they wouldn't show, like behind a flower or a photo. Part of the transparency that was under those items. I also used specific transparency paper from the lss which may make a difference for it not too bleed. I printed on the top and then you could spray adhesive on the bottom where you wouldn't have any ink. I hope this helps.

I've also seen people staple it and have it show, and that can look good too.

Yes that does help. Thank you! What is a good spray ahesive? Not too wet? When doing photos they need to be very flush with the paper or you get this double image shadow thing going on. I guess I need some Glue Dots ! Oh what is the lss? Something supply store? Sorry I'm still kinda new. lol
  • Yuyis
I use the Glue Dots or simply sew it in a couple of places.

the LSS is the local scrapbook store .

ah ha! I didn't think of sewing!

if you print on a transparency let it dry OVERNIGHT- yes, I know it seems a bit of a long time to wait but TRUST me!

Then to attach it to the paper: stickers, eyelets, vellum tape (almost disappears actually), ribbon, stitching, brads, photo turns, photo corners, zots and then put bling over them, staples, ribbon border to cover up the glues?

I've heard people use spray adhesive but I've never done that with transparencies, only nonclear stuff and it's pretty messy!

I've never tried mod podge on it but I think it would probably work well. Anyone done this and can give info?
  • JenTheMadScrapper
vellum tape! another good idea! great thanks! I will try that and letting it dry overnight.
  • Yuyis
I tried the mod podge but didn't like the result; it looked like streaks/like something had been smeared on the back even with a thin coat.

Good to know thanks for the info.

zip dry glue works perfectly on transparencies. but definitely let them dry overnight, it seems to take forever for the ink to set even when you print on the non-shiny side.

Thanks for letting me know this before I tried it on a large scale project. I've been bouncing an idea around in my head for like a month thinking all the angles around it and what not. It's just not jelling and I was going to try mod podge on my transparencies- NOT anymore!

Spray adhesive is a product from 3M most typically, but other vendors make it. I don't know, but I think its acid free, best to check. I don't use it often for sb projects, but it is in a can like spray paint. I'd do a test before I try it.

My printer is a color laser so it probably works a bit differently than the others. If yours is ink jet, I agree on the letting dry overnight.

I've printed on tranparencies using my inkjet and haven't had to let it dry overnight. I did have to make sure that the type of paper was listed as transparency. I didn't change it the first time and had to reprint.
  • JenTheMadScrapper
I can't find a setting on my printer for transparency.
  • Seaexplore
what type of printer do you have? if it's an HP it'll be in a pull down menu under "paper type/quality" (at least on mine it is and I just select "HP premium transparency"). I usually set it to "best" quality too. You can decide if you want more ink on it to make it more saturated, which is usually recommended when printing on transparencies.

I let mine dry overnight just because I want to be ABSOLUTELY sure it's completely dry- those transparencies are NOT cheap!

I have a Canon all in one photo printer. I usually just print it as I would a photo on high quality and I select matte photo paper because that is the only setting close to it. Unless there is another one I'm not aware of. Maybe there's another way to go about it.

I use Creative Imaginations Scrappers Spray for all my vellum and also transparencies.

I print on non-inkjet transparencies by wiping first with The Perfect Printing pouch and then setting the printing with a sealer --like Super Seal also from Creative Imaginations .
