Old Scrapbook Magazines

I'm just a newbie to this site, having had a few years break from scrapping (yes, I have a LOT of catching up to do!).

Now that I'm getting back into it all, I'm just wondering what to do with all of my old magazines. The techniques etc in them are quite dated, so I'm not sure whether to ditch them or tear things out or just keep them as is.

So what do you do with your old magazines? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Well I usually save magazines from the last couple of years, but the magazines that I don't use, I take to the recycling center! Sorry wish I could be more help!

I would take out things that appeal to you old or not and recycle the rest. There is a saying whats old is new again...so it may come round again. To me if I like it doesn't matter if it is old or not.

You could donate them as well. I'm sure lots of people would LOVE the ideas in them. I know when I host crops and newbies come, they love to browse my mags and a few girls have even borrowed stacks of the older ones.

I keep all of mine. I even bought some old ones at a scrapper's yard sale a year ago.

I keep all of mine. I just stack them under my scrap table according to season. It's nice to get out "the season" and refresh my ideas.

One thing I have started doing is tearing out a layout or technique I definately want to make. I find that if I don't I can't find that article at a later date. All the torn out pieces are put in a sprial notebook with a few notes, nothing fancy just something for my memory.

I turf them into the recycling bin after I cut out the pages of interest. I just can't keep all that paper anymore.

I do keep some magazines in full though.

I'd donate them but it is annoying to get a magazine only to find pages missing.

I too take out the things I like and put them in a notebook for later use.

Well, if you do decide to keep them all (I do), here's a hint. Store them by month (or quarter) - not by name. In other words, put all of your Jan-Feb-March issues together, your Oct-Nov-Dec issues together, etc., regardless what magazine it is. That way when you are looking for Christmas ideas, you just grab the Oct-Nov-Dec stack of magazines, and you have all those ideas together. It saves looking for the right month of each magazine.

Yes I have found this to be quite helpful. And after one year I tear out the Pagemaps from SB.etc and put in a binder and cut out anything that inspired me, put them into my note book by themes and jot down a few notes to remember why I did what I did.

I just had this fustrating conversation with another SB.comer because some I hold on to because nothing at all jumped out at me! But I am a HAVE TO let em go person. I do not want Niecy Nash at my house, she might try to get to the paper! LOL

I actually like my old magazines better because they are less fussy in terms of embellishments. So, I've kept mine.

Thanks for the replies. When I say "old" magazines, I'm talking about magazines from 2003-2005, so a fair while ago! I think that I'll tear out what I want from these and just hang on to my recent ones - maybe sorting these into months etc as some of you have suggested.

As far as donating them to the library goes, my library doesn't hold on to older magazines, and have actually given some of their stash to me!

I sold a bunch of mine on etsy last month, 52 mags for $20. They went to a good home and now they aren't cluttering up my shelves anymore. Might something to think about with Christmas around the corner!

I save all of mine too. I went through and purged the older issues and had them in a box in my garage for a while, but last month I attended a crop @ my sister's church and took like half the box and all the girls were more than happy to take them off my hands:) I'm taking the rest to the next crop this month:)

I tore pages out that I really like and the REALLY old ones I sold at a garage sale for 5 for $1.00 and made $75 on them. The pages I tore out I put in page protectors and in 3-ring binders. Sure freed up alot of space.
