Ack! Rubber cement as a photo adhesive!

Hey, all--

I just got an email from a brand, spankin' new scrapper who scrapped last night for the first time. A Michael's person said it was okay to use rubber cement (is that even true? I'd never heard it suggested for scrapping!). She did everything last night and today she says the rubber cement has soaked through to the back of the pages.

Any ideas on how to deal with this?

well, if the rubber cement was acid free (which I seriously doubt!) and she just wants to clean up the layout, she could cut out the pic and embellishments and mount them on a new sheet of cardstock.

If the cement wasn't acid free--- I can't image how to remove it. I would do some serious complaining if my photo was damaged from this.

There's at least one brand of rubber cement that is acid-free (most are not), but there are other chemicals in rubber cement that are bad for photos. Also, Undo will do almost any adhesive, but it does not work on rubber cement.

I am surprised it turned out that bad... I use rubber cement all the time! It's much cheaper than all those fancy adhesives, you can get it in a huge container for like 10 dollards! And if you mess up your page with glue, all you have to do is rub it off with your fingers! Hum... you guys don't use rubber cement on layouts???

no way! messy and harmful. i don't want to take all the time to do a lo and have the photos deteriorate!

I with you Karine! I use it too! What I buy is labeled "artist" and "acid-free"
I don't think it's messy and I'd argue it is NOT harmful. What do you think people used before all the fancy-smancy adhesives available today?

Sounds like this person perhaps used way too much.

The only thing is you have to be sure your pages are dry before putting them in a page protector.

when my sister first started out scrapbooking she was told to use rubber cement also. Her bottle said Acid Free...but she only used it for like a week if that and I bought her the CM tape runners. It ruinned some of her pages too. she had to get her pic's reprinted and had to start over
