Silhouette u did not update last yr u will not be able to use store soon

I just got a email from a silhouette blog that says if you did not update that came out last year you will not be able to use the store after June 22. I never did mine. When it came out..the people that did it had problems but they fixed it. iT was ok not to update but that is changing.
If you want to keep using the old version.. it is fine but you need to get a patch for it. I can send you the blog link that has instructions for the patch for the old one of how to update if you want to.

Oh that stinks- I was actually wanting to go back one update because ever since this last one my print/cut feature doesn't work good.

hey Trish..are you aware of the zeta boards plus site ? it is a message boards all about the silhouete.. it is not a company site. It has a questions board. it has a place for tutorials.. a place for fonts, You can search it too. . I t hink I read on the email that there was a way to not update but you had to do something else. I will go check that right now

ISilhouette America has just announced that starting June 22 users who are still using Silhouette Studio v2 will NO LONGER BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE SILHOUETTE DESIGN STORE.




The announcement comes more than a year after Silhouette America originally released Silhouette Studio V3. Until now users essentially had the option to continue using V2 (aka Legacy). However, in a June 10 statement about the latest version of V3 (V3.3.622), Silhouette America states a security update will make it necessary for users to get the free V3 update or they will no longer have access to the Design Store.

'Recently, the SSL security protocol that is used by many operating systems’ native browser became vulnerable and is no longer deemed secure by credit card companies.

The new version uses the TLS protocol to send data to the Silhouette Design Store, which offers proper data security. The update only affects the Silhouette Design Store and its security, as well as securely transferring information when upgrading the software with a license key.' - Silhouette America

Silhouette America must comply with credit card company encryption policies which make the Critical Security Update necessary to protect users.


Please note, you can continue to use V2 if you'd like, but you will still have to get an updated V2 patch. "We will be providing access to a patched V2 version for users who wish to remain on an older heritage version of the software," the SA statement reads. If you choose not to get the patch or update to V3 you will NOT be able able to access or purchase designs from the Silhouette Design Store and you will not be able to access your license keys (codes for things such as Designer and Business Edition).

I just bought a silhouette cameo. It is still in the box (I know...hard to believe myself ) I am not sure if I have to update or not.

I have some days off so I am looking forward to trying to figure out this machine.

I just updated mine last week, waiting til the last minute....guess I figured there would come a time what I could no longer use the old version....... that seems to be the way with all these electronic devices. I like some of the features on the old version much better but I'm sure I adapt!

Shygypsy WHAT are you waiting for!!! Dig it out and play! There use to be an excellent video for first time out of the box users, it was by GinaK, but that was several years ago and I have not looked for it recently.

The Cameo plus zeta boards are so helpful to new users & old users They have boards for lots of stuff.. fonts.. cuttiing files.. one is tutorials on how to do everything on these machines.
one is for any questions you may have about the silhouette stuff. I have asked lots of questions there. I will send all of you the link for it

I also do lots of you tube watching about the cameo. I just search on you tube how to add clip art to my cameo or how to add fonts to my cameo or how to do all the different techniques.
The new people will love the vidoes on you tube & so do I

I love my cameo. I use it a lot. but I been buy the mat seen I use all the stick on the mat and then it gose away. I just don't know how to make it stick again.

I just did (last week) the update for my Silhouette and had no problem. I'm a Mac user too, I delayed for a long time as I figured there would be problems but none! I use an iMac....... don't know what to tell you ppilgrim.

Ppilgrim, I'm a Mac user and I upgraded to V3 ages ago with no problem. I wish I could remember what I did, but I can't. I'm so sorry you're having problems.

That's odd. I am using a Mac and I did not have any issues updating. I made sure I used the one for Mac and it went through without a problem.

I bought my Silhouette over a year ago and have not taken it out of the box. I feel intimidated by it but I guess I'll have to see if I need to download the new version. Eeeeek!!

I am sorry I have not been here. it has been a bad week. I think someone asked why people wouid keep using the older versions & not upgrade..it was because some of the upgrades have a lot more stuff & their computers may not be able to work with it well.

if you want the V3 update, just go to the store in the software you already have installed - it won't let you get to the store, but it'll direct you to the update page.

Hey everyone! Thank you for this forum post.

I have the Silhouette Cameo and went to purchase some images on Thursday.

When I went on to the Design Studio page, a message popped up saying in RED: "Alert! We have detected you are using a version of Silhouette Studio that is using a non-secure security protocol. Please click your operating system below to download the update."

I clicked on Windows and proceeded with the update. I got an Error pop-up saying "the archive is corrupted." I tried again two more times and the update seemed to take on the final attempt with no error messages. Unfortunately, something didn't work because I still cannot access my library and can't even get to the Design Studio page. My desktop icon won't even work!

Could not get through to Customer Service on Friday, and the automated system told me to send an email. I sent my email request for help and on Saturday "they" forwarded instructions that did not work.

I can get into My Account by going to the Silhouette website, and it shows my purchase history. However, it says that all my files need to be "recovered." I realize you can do that 3 times with no charge, but I feel like the problem was caused by their forced update and I don't want to be "dinged" for a problem I didn't create.

Should I go ahead and recover all of my files and see what happens or wait to speak with someone from tech support?

That's my drama for the weekend! I sent another email asking for a phone call and personal contact since I've tried their written instructions.

I've had my Cameo since 2012 and did not receive notice about an update until last week when they "froze" my Design Studio page and Library access.

Any thoughts?? Have you all had good experiences with their customer support? This is my first issue. I'm not a big techie-type person, so I'm feeling overwhelmed. Sure hope this can be figured out. I love my Silhouette.

I would not recover your files just yet--if you chat with a live person it's possible it may not be necessary...? If you do have to recover, SilAm is usually good about resetting the number of recoveries, especially if the reason is something on their end or if they have helped you work through a problem.

I don't think any e-mail was sent out about this, just a banner on the top of the screen from the online store--and if you haven't been in the store for a week or two you would have missed it.

Thank you so much for your help! I have a phone appointment with Silhouette tomorrow, so hopefully they can help me figure this out. I appreciate your advice to wait about doing the whole recover scenario. I'm glad I did because I think you're right; they will help me recover what I've "lost."

Kanary...I tried downloading V3 four or five times...got the "corrupted" message each time. Remove the corupted download from your computer n start over...I've heard the program does not like interruptions so refrain from going to another site or page till done downloading

I have tried updating my software and it just gets stuck. I have tried rebooting my computer. I don't know how to get it updated. Any advise is appreciated.
