I like the Silhouette it my first cutting machine I ever owned. I bought it back in 2012 and I've no problem with it so far. I like Silhouette the best since you can download images from the internet to cut out. Also you can use your fonts that you have on your computer. Also you can design your own images if you want to and save it to the Silhouette library. The only thing I don't like is the cutting mat from Silhouette. It's not very tick or strong mat. Sometimes when you use the mat for the first time the Adhesive is really sticky and will sometimes tear your page. But I also heard you can use the cricut mat in the Silhouette you just need to cut it down to the same size to the Silhouette mat. To be able to make sure it cuts in the spot where your design is at. Hope this helps you out some what. I would do some research and looking at videos and read blogs about both machine. See what fits your needs the best.
YES! I use the cricut mats..... the only problem I have with the SIlhouette mats is they are transparent. Drives me CRAZY. When paper tears, it's usually because of blade settings. When in doubt, lower the speed, too.
Don't you have to buy cartridges for the Cricut? That just seems like it would get REALLY expensive and would limit what you could do.
I love both of the machines, I use Silhouette primarily for fonts and the ability to make a shadow around any image.
The Cricut Explore can be used with files downloaded from the internet, cartridges, individual purchased images, images for your own design (did a silhouette cut from photo) or by subscription for access. I have even cut any font on my computer including the ones that I have purchased through Silhouette! Lots of free images out there..... like justartguy says check out videos and see what machine will fit your needs.
OH wow this can be a can of worms.....
My personal choice after owning the circuit and various products of theirs then switching to the Silhouette, I would take the silhouette everyday and twice on Sunday. Love the machine and the store.
where does one even start comparing the options out there? I don't know the first thing about the electronic cutters, and have been a manual die cutter for a year now.
I just ordered the Silhouette Curio, cant wait to get it and start learning. I also have a Cricut Explore, a Brother Scan N Cut 350 and a Sizzix Big Shot. I absolutely love all of them. Each one does something different from the other. Check out lots of youtube videos. There are several comparisons.
So.... I have a cricut expression... LOL.... i know outdated... i want to know if i should buy another cricut so I can still use the 50 cartridges I have... or go with the silhouette... I love all the pages I am seeing cut with the silhouette.
I find I am liking the images from Silhouette more than the ones from Cricut. Silhouette in my opinion has a good mix of cutesy childish images (not my persona; favorite) and more designs that are sophisticated, elegant, trendy, as well as for other kids.
I like the price point for their images and regular sales.
I LOVE the easy of making a mat for ANYTHING with the Silhouette. Even those skinny fonts that are almost impossible to cut!!!
The things I still don't like are the price of their mats and blades and how often they need to be changed!!
Cutting with out a mat sound like a dream to me!??!
I probably will not ever buy another Cricut........ nor a Cricut image.
