Linking Cartridges

I just bought a new Cricut cartridge from CTMH and am trying to locate it in Design Space. Since it's an actually cartridge, not a digital one, will it only show up if I fire up my Explore Air 2 and link it? And if I link it, can I still use the cartridge on my old Expression, or will linking it mean I can only use it with my Explore Air 2? Thanks!

Yes you do have to fire up your Air2 to link the cartridge and yes you will still be able to use the cartridge with your Expression. In fact if you want to use cartridges just with your Expression, I am sure there will be a lot of people that will be selling their old cartridges that have been linked!

I gave my DIL all my old cartridges, now she can no longer use them as she as always used CCR to design with and can not function well with just the machine, so she bought a Silhouette cameo!

I just got a Cricut explorer 2 and read that I could link my cartridges. I have the original one, a dinosaur by now, I am sure but I love it.

Anyway, I have not had time to play with it, so Sharon, I might be asking questions, if you don't mind. I saw a couple of videos on utube.

I liked a number of my cartridges when I had the Cricut Create - way back - and used my Gypsy with it...then I went to CCR and graduated to a Expression. Still I never learned to function with just the machine. As I changed to design space (I did not want to have to do change from the Cricut craft room) my linked cartridges "followed" in my Cricut account.
That is too bad they could not keep CCR for those who do not update their computers and machines that often!!

I don't mind questions. I like to see everyone get the most use out of their machines as they can. One thing with a computer design system, you can work on what you want to cut and save it till you have the layout ready. Right now I have 3 designs (titles and icons) ready to cut as soon as I start the layouts!!

Sharon, thanks for the answer. I have several cartridges that I didn't want to link until I was sure I could still use them on my Expression, so you relieved my anxiety re: that issue! Off to do some creating, but I'm sure I will be back with more questions later.
