D-ring vs. 3-ring

I'm sick and tired of my post-bound albums and think it's finally time to switch to D-ring. Or is it 3-ring? What's the difference? Is there a difference? What's your favorite brand? Can I go cheap, or do I get what I pay for?

I don't know if there is a difference? I've only tried the American Crafts ones (as far as d-rings go) and I really like them. I just got this one. $12.50 regular price! I have some of their other ones too. I have one stuffed past the point it should be (the spine is getting smaller than the opening) and it's holding together really well and the rings are tight so the page protectors don't get caught like in the school binders.

Lol...I don't think there is a difference. I've only used D-rings and I ♥ them. Perfect for bulky scrappers. I use a 40% off coupon at M's.

I found some American Crafts D-Ring binders at the Tuesday place. I paid $5 each. They weren't my favorite colors, but for $5, I was more than happy to adjust my attitude, ha ha.

Oh....and I forgot to add....I love these albums. I can fit lots of layouts into a single album, and I've been using one album to store my layouts until I'm ready to put them all together, in order, in a post-bound themed album.

I'm about to make the switch too! Have a bunch in cart.

i am a bulky scrapper and am switching to D rings. they are the same thing as far as i konw

If by 3 ring you mean the school type binders they are not the same as the D ring scrapbooks. School/office binders are not big enough.

Amd you can always cover the scrapbooks if you don't like the color they are.

I switched a few months ago and love the 3-ring or d-ring, or whatever they're called! I have the american craft fabric covered ones with a window in the cover. I have yet to put anything in the cover, and I didn't bother replacing my old post-bound albums. I may eventually replace some of my old albums, but I like to keep my 2-pagers in the post-bound albums because it holds the pages together nicely. That's really the only downside I see to the 3-ring binders (that there's a space in the middle of 2-page layouts- which some people mind and others don't). I love how many layouts they can hold and how heavily embellished those layouts can be. They also make it a lot easier to move your layouts around within an album, which is great if you don't scrap in chronological order, or if you're working on multiple albums at once.

I like using the 3-ring or d-ring albums. I used to use the postbound and I made them so thick. The 3-ring hold a ton and is easier to move pages around.

So the shape of the rings have nothing to do with "D" rings? I always thought the D-rings were shaped like a D and the three ring binders were circular....

New, if I saw somthing advertized as a 3-ring binder then I'd assume it was the standard "O" ring binder, however if it was specified as a "D" ring then I'd know it isn't the "O" ring type for sure.

Yes, you ARE correct. I believe most scrapbook albums are D-ring. So, in the scrapbook world, the term is interchangeable. D-ring/3-ring versus strap hinge or post-bound....



As far as quality. I've always used the leather-like Hiller /We R Memory Keepers. Never had a problem. Although some of the brass corners came off from sliding them in and out of my mesh shelving (I don't keep them on that anymore). I figure that's extraordinary wear and tear.

I have heard people mention that their ring binders wear out and won't stay closed tightly (there's a gap in the rings). So, probably to an extent, you do get what you pay for.

I may have to move my wedding album to a D ring, from what you guys are saying they hold more. The post bound I have it in now is so full that it has a tendency to rip the holes in the page protectors, and I still don't have most of the reception pictures in there D:.

(That's what I did for my wedding.) Even my D-ring wouldn't have held all the lo's I did!

I love my D-ring albums. I only have American Craft and I mix conventional LOs with my pictures in them.
