My Cricut keeps freezing/locking up

  • DawnInAZ
When I was at our church crop on Saturday, my Cricut just froze up about five times. When you would push the CUT button, it said "Cutting" but nothing would happen. After turning it off, waiting about 20 seconds and turning it back on, it would work fine. It did this 2 or 3 times a couple months ago, too.
    Anyone ever have this problem?

This happened to me this weekend.

ok as a new cricut owner you are scaring me so stop it!! maybe u should call customer service and see what they say about it.

Hey Dawn! I would definitely call customer service. I have heard wonderful things about them and I am sure they will either help you figure out the problem or replace it for you!

Found this on some website...forget which one...

Reset sequence: Machine acting funky? Try this reset sequence provided by Robynstamps.
    Turn your machine off........
One dial at a time, turn all 3 dials all the way
up and all the way down (repeat 5 times each)...
Turn you machine back on....... Voila!

I've also read this somewhere else, but it didn't say to do it 5 times each. I think as long as you turn them all up, and then turn them all down, it should work. It doesn't make sense to me, but I guess if it has worked for other people, it might work. Good Luck

Once I turn mine off and turn it back on, it usually works just fine. Saturday night, a couple times when it came back on, it froze again.
    It's not like it's "broken."
    It is just annoying.

Mine has been doing that quite a bit lately. It almost always does it when I change the cart - am I supposed to turn it off before I take out the 'old' one and then put in the 'new'one while it is off?

It has also done it a few times when I change the size (from 1 1/2 to 3).

Turning it off and then back on again makes it work, but it sure is annoying!

My first cricut....had that same issue with the freezing and it was annoying. After a while of freezing the blade no longer moved freely. I called customer service and I did not even have my receipt since it was a gift and they did a serial number search on it and got the date of manufacture and since it was within the year they exchanged for a brandy new machine! Very nice people they have there. But first they will walk you through the dial procedure she mentioned above BUT she did not say in her post that you are to leave the machine after doing that for 6-8 hours before turning it back on. Call the customer service number to get the correct amount of hours!

Tivi: I always turn my cricut off when I change cartridges because the All Mixed up cartridge especially would freeze my machine. I do have the jukebox now and it's WONDERFUL! I put in six cartridges, then turn on machine and the push of a button and you swap with no freezing. I love it!

...I did read that you are supposed to turn your machine off when changing carts.

I had the same problem. I was told to turn off the machine when changing carts. I started doing that and it hasn't done it since.

    Thanks Ladies!!
I will start turning it off between cart changes and see if that is what the problem is!

Finally a real reason to purchase the jukebox! Hmm, I have more than 6 carts so I guess I'll have to get 2!
  • SspGrandma
i want to get one of those jukebox things too!

I have that problem where it freezes and I called cricut and they told me to so the same thing, turn all the dials to the minimum moving the cutter box over, push the red button inside, move the cutter back and then turn the dials one at a time all the way up then all the way back to minimum 3 times. Then she said wait half an hour and it re sets it self to the factory install.

But sometimes my baby bug decides to turn itself off then back on, and when I am typing the LCD display will dissapear. I don't know if I have a freaky machine or what. I didn't know about turning off the machine when changing cartridges but I do that now. Cricut said if I had an more issues to call back and they would help me but I life in canada - would they send me a replacement machine and then do I send this one back or would it just be easier to take it back to the store??

Well, I solved my problem - I took back my baby bug to walmart where I bought it and ended up upgrading to the cricut create from Micheal's it was on sale $279.99 from $399.99. I am so excited - I love the Don Juan cart already.

I have an old Cricut bug that I haven't used in years because it stopped working. Just did a reset that vh678 suggested. It worked!!!
