Raskog Cart From Ikea

I think I'd like to get a Raskog utility cart from Ikea. I've read about them here in the past. For anyone who has one, do they hold a lot of scrapbooking supplies? Is it sturdy? Is it difficult to put together. I looked at the instructions online, and it looks easy. I've had porch furniture that I couldn't begin to put together and had to get a handyman to do it. I'd like to be sure that I can actually do this and have it be sturdy. Do you recommend it? If there's another similar item that you prefer I'd like to know about that, too. Thank you very much for any input you can give me.

I love mine. Heavy metal legs with casters, and baskets with sturdy enamel finish. I thought it was simple to put together, with no ambiguous parts. Yes, it seems to hold a lot of stuff. I have put things in plastic containers that fit into the baskets; most have a couple of containers. The top one is stacked fairly high with containers of stuff I use frequently. I can see it being used to hold loose paper, decorative elements, tools, etc., but I live in a very dusty area, so prefer containers.

Thanks Carol. I don't have an Ikea near me so that I can see it. I think I'll go ahead and order it. Do you roll yours frequently? I would need to be able to roll it from one room to another when I'm working on my scrapbook.

I find it sturdy. It was a bit of pain to assemble but not that bad.

I have a basket in the bottom that holds dies. The middle shelf holds another basket with dies (dies are the thin ones like Quickutz and Spellbinders - they do get heavy when you have enough of them... ). Top shelf has a CTMH medium organizer that has a cover - holds a bunch of embellishments.

There is another cart out there at Sam's Club that is a bit smaller but I don't know how much it costs. Your Raskog is $30 and here in Canada it is $70 - just talking face value and not exchange or anything. If ever I am near an Ikea in the US with my car, I will get a second (and maybe a third one) for that price!

Thanks Jane! It's amazing that it's $70 in Canada. I do think that $30 seems like a good buy. It's $40 with shipping. I hate to hear that you felt like it was a pain to put together. I'm not very handy and will have to do it by myself. I think I'm going to order it though.

I have one - my son gave it to me and assembled it. It rolls very easily even on my carpets. I keep punches on mine... Love it as very sturdy

I think the "pain" part is slowly tightening each screw with the allen key. You can't just keep spinning. But I had bought an Alex cart that same day so I had had enough of assembling.

It is just tedious. Not hard. The big pieces are harder as they are heavy to move around for one person but the cart is just fine.

Love mine. I got the grey one. Easy enough to put together, I kind of wished I had painted mine pink first but oh well.

I use it to hold all my punches. I mind change that. It is super sturdy and rolls nicely.

Thanks Samantha. I would want it to hold a lot of my supplies. I would want it to hold my punches, embellishments, my basket with my glue and scissors, etc., basically everything except my paper. I hope it would work for all of that. I don't have a desk that I can keep set up with my scrapbooking supplies all the time, so I really need something besides all of the boxes that I have my supplies in now. I think this would have enough room, but I'm not positive.

Carol, check out Pinterest for ideas. Some have attached some bins from Ikea with nylon zip ties and added the hanging shelves from their system that hangs on rods. These were used to hold additional supplies.

ETA - Bygel is the system.

I may look messy with all of that but can add storage.

Jane, what a great idea to check Pinterest! I can't believe I hadn't thought about that as I check it every day. They've got some great ideas. I've put the Reskog and the Bygel wire basket in my shopping cart now. Thanks for telling me about Bygel, too. I wish we had an Ikea and I could go pick it up tomorrow. I'm anxious to get started getting a little bit better organized than I am. I'm not sure I've ever ordered anything from Ikea. I hope they ship quickly.

I didn't think it was that hard to assemble. One of the easier things I have put together. I agree - it was just tightening the screws with the Allen wrench that was very time consuming.
It fits lots of items! I love mine! I also hung things on those binder rings off the side.

Thanks PhotobearSam and scrappy_day. I've decided to order it. I've been looking at it all day. Don't know why I haven't done it yet. I think I am a bit intimidated about putting it together, but I know I can do it.

It is a lovely cart. Sturdy. Holds tons. You can spray paint it to match if the colours don't suit your needs.

It is straightforward if a little long. Pour yourself your favourite beverage, put on some tunes and tighten away....

I have assembled tons of Ikea and hardware store furniture and the only one I really needed help with was the 3x3 Expedit. It was too large to tighten straight without someone spotting it on the other end for me and lifting.... I think I did get help with my pantries to lift them. I assembled 3 alone and one with a friend - much more fun with two but totally doable.

Okay Jane. You talked me into it. I just ordered it! It's not supposed to be here until August 8. That's a long delivery time. Also, I have to be home to sign for it and check the package before they leave. That seems like a lot for a $30 item. They said they're delivering it Parcel. What does that mean? Will the post office deliver it? I can't wait to get it and see how much I can put in it. Thanks, everyone, for helping me with this decision.

Edited to add: I Googled Parcel shipping, and it is the slowest form of shipping that the post office does. It's parcels only, no letters.

Yay! You're going to love it! I have some hanging baskets/containers that I use off the side of my cart. It makes certain tools easier to reach and provides additional space. I got the containers from Ikea and the baskets from Daiso.

I assembled mine all by myself and didn't have a problem. I find the cart extremely sturdy and roll it around quite a bit to move it from its usual stationary spit to where I'm crafting.
