Embossing Folder "Compatability"

Sissix, Cuttlebug, Spellbinders...it seems like all of these companies make their own embossing folders. But can any embossing machine accommodate any brand embossing folder/template? For example, can you use a Provo Craft folder in a Sissix embossing machine?

And can a Nestabilities template be used in an embossing machine at all?

(Can you tell I am new to this?)

I have a Sizzix and I use the cuttlebug folders. It works great.

the sizzix big kick/big shot can take ALL the folders out there. I don't know about the cuttlebug. I do know that the fiskars plates aren't SUPPOSED to fit in the bug but people have said that they do fit. Nestabilities/Spellbinder s fit in the sizzix. I have one and I use all the different folders/plates in mine.

You can also make your OWN embossing plates by using confetti or diecuts stacked up and adhered to a background. It's cool! Make them for WHATEVER you want!

I have the old sizzix (big red) and use sizzix, cuttlebug, and nesties in it. You just have to learn what kind of plates and adaptors you need. For the cuttlebug and sizzix embossing plates, I have to use the adaptor. The nesties also need a little strip of rubber that you can buy at AC Moore or Hobby Lobby. Directions are included in the nesties package.

I have a cuttlebug and I have used the following in it

spellbinders (nestabilities, shapabilities, etc) you will need a rubber mat to emboss but not to cut
cuttlebug dies and folders
cuttlekids
sizzix
sizzlets
fiskars texture plates (use a rubber mat)
