Gift Basket ideas

Hi

I know this has been asked a few times but I cannot find the threads about it.

I am planning to give a friend a "welcome to Scrapbooking" gift basket with some small starter items, but I am not sure of what all to include. I don't want to overwhelm her but I want to introduce her to some nice products and get her started off on the right foot.

So far, I am thinking on getting her a CM corner rounder (I have one and love it!) and a nice set of scissors. In the handmade card to go on the gift basket, I am putting either a HL or a Michaels gift card- have to find out which is closest to her.

The background on my friend that this is being given to:
she is a 1st grade teacher and mom of 2 girls-Ages 12 and 20 something) and 1 boy-age 18. She is a new grandma to a sweet baby boy as well. Her 2 daughters are wanting to learn how to do scrapbooking too, so this gift basket will probably be shared with them as well.

None of them have ever scrapped before and they do not have anything yet to do this hobby. The mom is wanting to learn card making too so I will be teaching her that as well.

If you were doing this, what else would you include?

I would throw in:
adhesive (a dotto, a stick and glue dots)
a paper stack
rub-ons
a clear stamp set
ink pad
distressing ink

Maybe an 8 x 8 album...so she can start off small and not be overwhelmed with a big 12 x 12 album. Maybe a magazine to give her some ideas.

I was thinking a magazine or two also. Adhesive is another good idea.
Maybe a mini tag book (or something like that) that lists things like helpful tips, maybe sb sites or stores that would have helpful info or galleries to look at for inspiration, maybe book suggestions, include a glossary of scrapping terms.

When I first began scrapbooking it was all on my own, without anyone to really help out with advice on design or supplies to purchase. I really liked the ideas that people had about throwing in a couple of magazines and lists of good resources on the internet. I used my black journaling pen, adhesive, and paper trimmer constantly back then - those I had, but the showstopper for me was always finding the right color cardstock. Building up a decent selection of cardstock was the singlemost important thing I did , early on.

This is kind of how I got into it -- a bunch of women at work gave me a basket for one of my birthdays!

Some of the things I received in it were the embossing heat gun, a few containers of embossing powder, cat stamps (I have a cat), lots of different embellishments, a pack of scrap paper, and a few other things I can't remember! It was really nice!

There are several 'getting started' books or magazines out there. I would put in a variety pack of card stock and maybe a mini album. I think even a mini book kit would be good. Definitely adhesive and the scissors are a great idea!! I might suggest if you have an LSS in her area you buy a gift certificate for there then they could assist her as well. Maybe even a GC for a class.

How about some nice flowers, ribbon or 3-D embellies (depending on her taste since you know her and we don't )? Definitely some adhesive. Have fun! I love doing that for people.

How about gifting it in a scrapooking tote? That way when you are teaching her tricks, it is easy for her to bring all her fun new stuff to you.

Some 12x12 plastic envelops would be helpful too.

I would give her the Scrapbooking Encyclopedia by Creating Keepsakes . It will introduce her to all the different types of products and how they are used. Also has lots of layouts and how to do them. I bought this long after I began scrapbooking and I still find it helpful. I bought it a Borders I think...

Def some adhesive, some embellishments, ribbon, maybe a small album (like someone else suggested), some papers for that album, just keep it simple and doable. Don't want to overwhelm her. Ooh and some rub-ons. The tote was good idea, too.

Maybe alter a paint can and stick in adhesive, journaling pens, brads, ribbon and a GC to the LSS in her area? Or sign her up for a basic scrapbooking class so she can see what it's all about.

I like the cardstock for sure, the trimmer is good too. Some journaling pens are good and of course starter adhesive and an album of some sort. A GC is great for any embellishment purchases because she can personalize them herself.

OOooooo I love the paint can idea! I love doing paint cans! Here's one I did for my daughters b-day (to use as decoration) It would be cool to put lots of small stuff in!
