Wanting the too-sticky mats back....

I've been out of the cricut loop (more or less) for several months now. I know a while ago, many complained because the mats were too sticky and it was hard to remove paper from brand new ones. I actually LIKED having the mats that sticky because it allowed me to cut grunge paper with my machine.

A couple weeks ago, I replaced my old mats with the newer version at HL.... only to learn that they decreased the stickiness and I can't get my grunge paper to adhere at all! Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get the mat super sticky?

I would recommend that you tape off the edges of the mat and use a temporary spray adhesive. I tried this on my mat and it made it super sticky....too sticky for regular paper but for grunge paper it just might do the trick for you. The other technique I use when trying to "re-stick" my mat is to use the Zig two way glue (large chisel tip size) and rub it all over the mat. You leave it out to dry overnight and voila.

I use windex wipes or spray windex on my cricut mat then wipe, it makes it sticky again,, I have never used grunge paper, so not sure if it would stick, good luck =)

Thank you, both! I'll try the Windex today, as I have that on hand, and remember to pick up Zig glue next time I'm out crafty shopping.

I just use painters blue tape and tape my grunge paper or chipboard down a little on both sides. I will have to try the windex though.

I have a few mats that stink as well...I also have had mats that are too sticky and some not sticky enough...Is there a happy medium??

I restick mine now with zig (wide tip) or the slice glue.

I tried the windex wipes and they certainly help with making it sticky again....I was surprised! Saying that using the zig two way glue makes it much more sticky....

I find the washing works for a while, and then I eventually need to reglue!

I know that provo craft has been replacing alot of the imagine mats. If you call them they will send a new one. my friends didn't work at all. she called and they sent her 2 packs of mats.

I use the crafters companion sprays to restick my mats. It works great.

I did the Zig glue trick after reading it here and what a money-saving tip that has been!

I thought the Windex thing sounded too good to be true, but I just did it on one that desperately needs to be reglued and it worked. It'll still need to be reglued in a few days, but the Windex got all the "yuck" off of it for sure. And it's sticky again!

I'll fess up to slacking -- haven't yet tried the glass cleaner or zig. I DID, find the mats I'm used to at a big box store and am looking forward to testing them with some grunge paper later this evening.

Lady @ local scrapbook store gave me great tip, use baby wipes to scrub mat clean allow to air dry, mat becomes sticky all over again.Also said shouldnt use two way zig glue cause eventually causes buildup around cutter & clogs up.Hope this helps, as I'm a new user on Cricut Machine

Yes, there will be build up of any added adhesive. If I want to further the life of a mat (or need to out of desperation) I use goo-gone, scrape it very clean( any and all adhesive comes off) wash with hot soapy water, let dry and then re-apply my choice of stickyness.
I use the Zig or the Tack it over and over glue(diluted).

Windex......I need to try that with the ones I have at school. I keep my baby bug there, as it's just so handy. But I bring the mats home to clean them.
