How many baby book pages?

I've been doing my son's baby book and it seems like I am scrapping just about every single event I took pictures for (which isn't hard to do since they are so cute). It seems like I'm going to end up with about 3 albums for his first year and that seems crazy to me. I was just curious on how many pages (or albums for that matter) anyone did or plans on doing for their baby's first year? Also, if you have any suggestions on what to scrap (all the pics are of 'important' things from that first year) that would be great!

I have a baby book with all the firsts, and then I do a family year book, and put most everything else that wouldn't fit in her baby book, there.

You could also print photos smaller to fit more on a page (oooh, baby mosaics).

I think most scrapbookers or parents in general have more photos and hence albums for the first year. I don't have kids, but I know my neices have way more photos of their first years than anything else. I think that you should do as many layouts as you want. He will never have a first year again.

It seems that the first year books have so many cute pics you can't bear to part with. My advice is to scap all of them you want to, kiddos grow up way to fast and you will be glad you preserved those memories later.

Lol! I was just looking at your little guy thinking he looks a lot like this kid I used to babysit for named Jacob. Then I noticed your little one's name is Jacob too. How funny! He is a cutie!

My cousins (now) ex-wife made 9 albums of thier baby girls first year! Yes, 9 albums, each containing about 40 pgs/80 Lo's.

I thought that was a little much but the pages that I have seen are beautiful and I figure, if thats what she wanted to do, then so be it!

I can't really imagine self-imposing a limit. I mean, you're creating art, preserving memories, consolidating so people don't have to look at a million pics to get the gist, AND you're enjoying a hobby ... do as much as you want! When I started my dd's scrapbook, I wanted to do the major milestones/firsts. I've now got 3 albums going (none full) and I scrap whatever inspires me. I've gotten so many great ideas here that I can't resist incorporating them into her albums. And in fact, the non-milestone pages are generally my favorites so far. Oh and she's only 7 mths old. HTH!

I help take care of my niece and she's a big part of my life, so I'm answering from that perspective. Her first year is one full album, especially since there's so many firsts. I hope to fit 2 years in an album from now on.

I do a newborn page,a 1 year page, and so on til 1 year.then I create a book for each year.

I'm doing our boys, they are in their 30's and what I don't scrap, I put on a collage page at the end of the year. There is a two drawer file cabinet full of pictures not to mention a storage bin...I won't live that long to finish them..unless I stop reading messages and start scrapping!!!!!

I am working on my daughers baby albums. She is almost 11 months. I am almost to her 9 month pictures and have 2 full 12x12 albums and a 3rd one that is almost done. I will probably end up with 4-5 albums for her first year. Then after that I will do holidays and main events and stuff and probably make a smaller album like 8x8 and do single pics or something.

I did a baby book for each of my three children. With my first daughter I had so many pics to choose from it was hard to decide, but i hadnt been scrapbooking for very long so her book is pretty simple...as I had each of my children I got more and more supplies, so my layouts changed. I pretty much tried going month by month, and doing all the "firsts". But I dont think it matters how much you do, its that you are doing it!

I was overwhelmed at first scraping my daughters baby book SO I sat down and made a spreadsheet of all the pages I wanted to make and then I crossed them off my list as I finished them. I have a first page thats kinda an overview, then pregnancy page, shower pages, birth and delivery, birth announcment, nursery, and then a page for every month, bathtime, first foods, sleeping pictures, holidays, a milestone page, her first birthday and a closing page. There are 40 LO's total.

OF course I did mine after the fact. I just finished and she is 2 1/2. I went through and picked out my pictures according to my list and finished it that way. Wow that seems anal when I type it all out.

for those who usually do 2 pg LOs, did you do the same for the 1st yr book or did you just do 1 pagers to fit everything you wanted?

I too have 3 albums of my dd's first year. I made 2 of them...one was "premade" album my sister made for me and I added the pictures (hence how I started scrapbooking!). That album had more of the "firsts" and milestone-type events. The ones I did were obviously the first pages I ever scrapbooked, but they are still precious to have. Can't wait to start scrapping this little one when it arrives!

I'm not done with my children's baby albums,but I know I have a ton of LO's for each of them. I say scrap as much as you want!

Just keep scrapping all the pictures you want this first year! I didn't start scrapping until my baby was 24, so I have one album for birth to kindergarten. When I finally have grandchildren, I'll probably have multiple first year albums for them. It's easier now with digital pictures!!

I agree, do as many as you feel like. I started scrapbooking about eight years ago for my first daughter's album. I have LO's of her at all different ages, but sometimes I come across more pictures of her as a baby that I really like and I scrap another baby page.

I have some 2 pg LOs and some 1s. I like doing 2 pg LOs so I don't have to worry about the pages coordinating (I'm anal like that), but if I don't have enough good pics of a particular topic, or it just doesn't make sense to do 2 pgs, then I just do a single and usually leave it out of the book until I've got another single that I think will look okay next to it.

the last one i did was about 40 pages I use some a normaly baby book to go off of ..

lol don't worry. i was actually just thinking the same thing about myself right before i read this. my baby girl is ALMOST 3 months and i already have two full albums. so like 80 or so pages. and christmas is here now too so i will have alot more. but i think it has something to do with being a first time mom and all so im camera happy lol

Your baby will only have one first year! Scrap as much as you want--for my kids, as they get older, I don't have as many pics, so I figure it will even out!

It is too hard to pick out just certain pics - so i pretty much do a LO of every time i take pics of my GD (if they turn out good ) at times i have done 5 LO's of one event and had to stop myself!! She just turned 2 last week and i have at least 550 LO's of her. I have 6 books full (80 pgs each)
then #7 is half full - then i have her birth book and 2 books i do by the month theme - 1 is done by taking her pic every month on the 14th, so like her 2nd month LO and her 14th month LO set next to each other in the book- to see how she has grown a year to the day ( geez, i hope that makes sense! ) that one i am done with - it was just to be a 2 year project. then the other is also a month book - like Jan is a snow theme, Feb is a valentine/heart theme and so on, and they also set next to each other in the book from one year to the next, it too is only for 2 years.
so anyway, the moral to my really long story is that there really is no certain amount, what ever works for you!! Hope i didnt bore you!! P.S my GD LOVES to look at her books already and she is just 2 - imagine her as an adult looking back on all her books!! Grandma's time (and money ) well spent!!!

I don't have children, but if I did, I think I would just pick my favorite photos and those "firsts" and put them in one scrapbook album.

Then I would take the rest of the pictures and put them in a regular photo-safe album (not "scrapped") because then I'll still have the photos to look at, but for a "quick" (relatively) glimpse at the first year, I can grab that one scrapbook.

And I don't think I'd do one scrapbook for each year for each child. Can you imagine how many scrapbook albums you'd have?!

I scrap my favorite photos/events/memories and put the rest in a regular photo album. And I'd definitely add many photos to a page! LOL.

Cathy Zielske (she has a few books out) does something pretty cool. She has albums called, "Family," "Christmas," "Friends," and then one for each of her two children. She just adds to them as she pleases, and there's never a "caught up" or anything like that. She only scraps her favorite photos/memories. She also does mini-albums like, "Favorite Photos of the Year" and "About Me" stuff like that.

I did one Christmas scrapbook for my family (all Christmases growing up), and that will probably end up being 60 layouts spanning 30 years. I think that's pretty good!
