Stamp cleaner

I was wondering if someone knew of a stamp cleaner that is safe to use on acrylic stamps. Ive read a few that say "All purpose stamp cleaner" than read reviews online and it says that it isnt safe to use on acrylic stamps because it'll cause crazing(cracks).

So I am hoping someone can guide me to a product they use on theire acryic stamps.

I'm no expert and have only been using them for about 2 years now. I use non alcohol baby wipes. No problems yet.

the only one I've heard of not to use on clear stamps is the Stazon cleaner. The ink is OK, just not the cleaner.

Acrylic stamps don't require much to clean, it usually can be achieved simply by "stamping off", repeatedly stamping on a piece of scrap paper until the ink no longer transfers. Though the stamp may still appear to be slightly tinted, it really IS clean and ready to be used again.

However, if you want the stamp to actually APPEAR clean, it may be problematic. Because whatever solvent you use to remove ink stains from the FRONT of the stamp, is also guaranteed to remove the stickiness from the back of it. One thing I've do when "deep cleaning" my stamps to avoid removing the stickiness, is to attach the stamp to an acrylic block first, then soak a paper towel with solvent (I use acetone) and LIGHTLY press the stamp onto the solvent-soaked towel a couple of times. This allows the stamp surface to come into contact with the solution while protecting the back. Of the acetone will certainly take the sticky off, so I'm real carerful and don't do this often.

P.S. Acetone is really great for cleaing the acrylic blocks (with no drawbacks), I just rub it on them with a cotton ball and voila! Crystal clear again, even removes StazOn ink.

Thats why I was mainly asking, because I just bought a few StazOn pads(spendy little things might i add!) and I read that those inks really stain ur stamps. So therefore was looking into buying an actual cleaner.

I use my cleaner and cleaning pad from Stampin' Up on all my stamps.

I would not use Staz-On on acrylic stamps.

I use a cleaning spray from any of the stamp companies (CTMH, Hero Arts) or Grandma's Stamp Cleaner and a Scrubber (I have one from Technique Tuesday and one from Stampin Up). I don't use baby wipes.

When my stamps look dirty I peel them off the backing and wash them in a wire mesh strainer with dish soap. Then I spread them out on the counter to dry. They are sticky and clean afterwards. Some stamps will always stain--it depends on the inks you use, how fast you clean, and what type of "clear" material the stamps are made from. Photopolymer is the best. HTH

Be VERY careful of using anything that might make your acylic stamps - or rubber stamps - become dry and brittle! They should never be cleaned with something that contains alcohol or some degreasing components. I would NEVER use acetone och dish soap... I use Ultra Clean stamp cleaner with the Double Scrubber pad and all my stamps, both acrylic and rubber, becomes clean and won't dry up. It's even better than StazOns's own cleaner. Try it once and you´ll never go back!

Haven't tried TT's version but it might be just as good! ..and as they say in the product info "...contains no harsh abrasives or alcohol that can damage your clear stamps"!

i use alcohol free baby wipes to clean mine, so far so good.

I have also only used baby wipes and was looking into getting a stamp cleaner. I mainly use Staz-On Ink because I have found that a lot of other inks smear too easily. I do also use other kinds of inks though.

So far I have just used a really wet paper towel and press it again and again to the stamp which is still on the block. This works and seems too easy and no one has mentioned that..so I wonder..is water a nono?

I use Inkssentials water-based stamp cleaner that I got at HL for 2.99. Works great. If you use a dark ink on the clear stamps, you're not going to get all the discoloration off them, but you get the surface ink off. Haven't had much problem with my rubber stamps being discolored, though...works wonderfully on those and makes them look new again!

I use stazon on my clear stamps and use baby wipes on them. Some of my clear ones are stained which just happens esp with Red... but my black stazon If I clean it off quick enough it dont stain too bad
I like the stamp scurbbers they help alot

I use baby-wipes. So far so good!

I do use a stamp scrubber pad with my remover...works really well!

Just curious why you would not use dish soap -- I have never had a problem but then again, I don't stamp every day.

For the wet paper towel--sometimes in classes (or if I forget my scrubber) I use a couple of wet paper towels folded on a plate as an impromtu stamp scrubber when I have too many stamps and not enough scrubbers going around. It works!

Beacuse they are made to remove all sorts of grease, even the good kind that your stamps need so they don't dry out and become brittle and break.

thanks for this thread. been using baby wipes and staz on cleaner for most jobs. think i'm going to try ultra clean.

I just use baby wipes, and that seems to be effective! To get in the little corners, I usually take a tooth pic and just push around the baby wipe.
