Polymer clay and scrapbooking

Hi,
A scrapbook store near my house brought in a Polymer Clay guild to do a beginning workshop in caning. It was so much fun, my first attempt at using Polymer clay. I see on the web that some people have combined this with scrapbooking, using the polymer clay to make scrapbooking embellishments. Does anyone here work with polymer clay?

I've seen it in magazines and idea books and have thought about trying it because it looks so cool. I guess if you do it thin enough you can make some really nice charms.

I'm a beginner dabbler. I've made small embellies (just plain small discs and shapes - no caning yet). I've recently seen titles done with it and want to try that next.

Besides being fun, I find myself rolling clay while watching TV, it's relatively inexpensive when compared to stamping and scrapbooking. One of those little blocks of clay run about $2 and I hear that they go on sale too.

We learned how to make the lace that you can use to cover beads. Easy, if anyone wants to know.

thanks for that link -- I've been using the mini canapes cutter like things they make for polymer clay to "cut out" basic shapes. NOT confident enough to try caning. I have bought some already made canes and was in awe of them. I got a pasta machine and am waiting on hubby to make me a press. Once I get a press, I will be off and running on the words.

What do you use the press for? Is it to flatten out pieces that have curled during baking?
I did recently make a press for a bookbinding class I'm taking (now I'll be able to make my own albums). It was pretty easy I went to the hardware store and got them to cut 2 pieces of 13"x13" plywood and bought 4 C-clamps and used wood gule to glue on some scraps of wood for feet.
The C-clamps were the expensive part since they cost more than $5 a piece. Someone said you can line the inside with Formica. However I can not find Formica scraps around here and one sheet is really expensive and large. You've given me an idea though I can get plexiglass and maybe line it with that for use with clay. I already have a large piece that I use to roll my clay on, used to use it as a painting palette.

The teachers from the guild had a really neat attachment for the pasta maker, a motor. It made running through some of the stiffer clay, like the transparent, a lot easier.
I'm not sure how much that costs though.

Use Skulpey Bake N Bend. I roll it VERY THIN --like cardstock. bake for 1 minute in toaster oven until flexible and not cracking. The I print on it w/ inkjet printer for title.

The motor's for the clay machine are a bit pricey. Well, to me they are. I like hand cranking - less noisey. What I'm really looking for are the wavy and decorative blades. Can't get them here I'd like to try texture plates too, but that's a far off cry for now. Someday.

Are you still looking for those blades?
I may be shopping for retreat supplies if I decide to go.
