Scrapping 8X10 photos?

Does anyone have any ideas or examples they can share of scrapping 8X10 photos on a 12X12 layout? I have a lot of portraits of my son from his first year and they seem to be taking over the house. I'd like to put them in a scrapbook, but using that size of photos on a layout seems overwhelming - I wouldn't be left with much space to work with at all, and I have no idea where to start.

I did this one, but I had to cut it down smaller....

Is there anyway to trim your 8x10's down without losing too much of the photo?

A couple of them have some space that could be cropped, but a lot of them are fairly close up. Most are portrait studio shots that I just don't want on the walls anymore - I'd like to replace them with more candid shots of my son as he grows - but I don't just want to put these in a box somewhere. I had portraits taken every month of his first year (awesome baby shower gift from someone!) and they really show how he's grown, so I was thinking of doing a book just of the 8X10s. I just don't know where to start.

I keep mine very simple, and put journaling on a tag behind the photo. This one is landscape.

You could also scan the pics and reprint them in a smaller size.

You could reprint, then paper punch in corners and have quotes in the background. It would dress up the pic a bit without taking away from the face.

I have a few 8x10" pic LOs in my gallery, but just offering a suggestion here:

Have you thought about just inserting the photos in 8.5x11" page protectors within the album? Most albums you can do this with, and then they'd be right there with LOs from that time period and not hidden in a box. Just a thought as while I'm doing my son's first year album, I'm inserting photos like this, etc. within his album in this manner.

Thanks for the links... I have several of my daughters 8x10 portraits of her being a "ballerina" and I have no idea what to do with those... those links are great help!!!

I had the same problem except I also had the additional problem of the photos being discolored by age. I reprinted them in black and white with a smaller photo in color to show what the original looked like.
