I watched a You tube video on it. I didn't like that you will have to tape down your paper since the magic mat isn't magnetic? Am I seeing this correctly?

Scrappin 2 - I watched the video also. I really couldn't understand why the gal taped down her dies. I would not think that's required. I do have a magnetic platform as my base and only use the regular platform to use my embossing folders. What I get from the Magic Mat is that it is self-healing and won't warp, according to what they said. I have an order placed to try one out. I get so tired of my acrylic plates warping. Dawna (Dawna.s Place) said she puts hers in a cookie sheet with sides and pours boiling water over one at a time and it flattens them back out! I have seen people heat them in the oven but I'm afraid of the smell and my husband having a hissy-fit if it did! LOL. Anyway, hope that helps!

I have some dies that won't stick to my magnetic plate--it's the weirdest thing and I wonder what they're made of that they don't... I also have a hard time visualizing where the die will truly cut when I use it since you have to put the paper on top of the die then. I always tape mine down anymore, because otherwise they shift as I run it all through and it doesn't cut where I think it's going to. Almost enough to make me stop using my dies! :/

Maybe your dies are aluminum or copper-based? Neither will stick to a magnet in general. Just got my Magic Mat and playing with it tonight. Since it's not magnetic so I have to find my magnetic plate....and my sandwich guide. I get so confused with ABC plates, etc.

My cutting plates have lasted for about 3 years now. I use only one for cutting (flipping over and over) until it's so ugly and scratched; then I switch and use the top mat for cutting and ugly one for sandwiching. Every once in a while I use my heat gun to gently warm it and stick it under a stack of albums. I have two spare sets though "just in case."

Vexed...I put my paper down first, then my die face down and use washi tape, if needed, to place the die where I want. Most of the time my magnetic platform will hold it in place. Before I got the magic mat though, my acrylic plates that seem to warp would not allow the magnetic platform to do its job so I use the washi tape. Now that I have the magic mat I just use the acrylic plate for the top part of the sandwich.
