eyelets and brads... a few questions

1. I see Making Memories Mesh Eyelets and Making Memories Eclectic Brads, how would I conect these to paper? Can i use the same eyelet setter for all? are mesh different than eclectric or is that just the title?


2. I see a MM Eyelet Setter that says "Our flowered eyelet setter makes setting your eyelets effortless. Attached eyelets remain very thin as the flowered shape spreads out, leaving beautifully thin pages." Will these will with all MM eyelets? Then I see a MM hole punch that says "This size adjustable punch can be placed anywhere you need on your paper project. Perfect for pages with eyelets or carefully placed holes for detailing. This tool allows for switching of 1/16, 1/8, and 3/16 punch heads." Do I use this with eyelets?

OR, is the Making Memories - Universal Eyelet Setter better?

(or another brand, I don't care, that's just what I pulled up)

3. What do I use to set/attach Brads?

(so new to this)

4. What's the different b/w brads and eyelets? do you set them the same? what tool(s) do I need?

also, is there anyway to vew all items, rather than having to go by brand then type? I'd like to just few all eyelets and brads, or all paper, it's a pain and a waste of time to go through everything.

6. Also, is it normal for so many items to be unavailable? Any idea how long it takes before items are in? I'd like to order from here, since I use the website, but I can't wait forever before ordering.

I don't know about the whole brands issue and I've never set an eyelet (seems like too much work to me!) but I LOVE brads.

I just use the tip of my craft knife to poke a tiny whole in my paper and then insert the prongs of the brad in, flip my paper over and flatten the prongs. They're super easy to use, it doesn't make any noise to set them, and they come in so many colors, sizes and shapes. The only downside is that unlike eyelets, they don't have an open circle.


When somethings unavailable from the superstore here, I just sign up for the email to let me know when it comes back in stock. It doesn't usually take too long.

Practice first - I "mooshed" the first few...it takes a lot less pressure than you'd think!!

I understand about not having things in stock, it just seemed every other item I wanted was out of stock! I'm assuming that means they have good prices and service, but I haven't check other stores.

I added all the items to my wishlist, I'll go back and ask for email notice for some. Don't think I'll need everything I added. But time is an issue, since I'm working on the album now.

I'll look into the cropadile, I don't want to spend on ton on this one project, though I have three albums to complete.

any other tips would be great!

When I first started scrapping I bought eyelets in practically every color of the rainbow. Then I discovered brads. I like them so much better because they are QUIET. My husband can't stand it when I'm pounding in the night and when you go to a crop, depending on who you're with, making an announcement that you'll be making noise gets old. (The first time I didn't announce it everyone jumped a mile and one person ruined her project. Course it depends on the group, I've been at other crops when someone is hammering every two minutes!) Anyway, I just like brads better and only use eyelets when I need a hole to thread ribbon through or something.

I have a MM tool kit and their eyelet setter which "flowers" the back is the best, IMO. Some of them just annialate the back of the brad and split it all the way to the front--and try removing that from your project! I also have one of those snapper setters, but it kinda hurts your hand--no hammer required though.

I found the cropadile, and it looks cool. I don't really have room for tons of different tools....don't like the idea of using a hammer on my lo's either...sound kinda odd to me...

Just so I understand correctly, the cropadile will allow me NOT to use a hammer and is the only tool I'll need to attach eyelets?


might stick with brads...I just liked some of the eyelets I saw. And eyelets LOOKED easier...

Another question, will the eyelets or brads mess up the lo behind them? (meaning will the backs mess up the back of the other lo in the page protector?)

The Crop-o-dile has a limited range. If you want eyelets anymore than 2" or so in, then you will still need the hammer and setter. But, I try to accomodate my Crop-O-Dile now (hehehe).

And to answer the previous question about the prices and service her at sb.com, let me just say that I don't have a local scrap location and the closest is an hour drive one way, so I rely on online purchases. Not only is sb.com prices VERY comparable to other stores, they ship relatively QUICK. Since they keep up on their inventory, there are very few (if any at all) circumstances of having items back ordered or items holding your order ope. I placed an order with them this last time the evening of August 16th and it was in my house the morning of August 21st. There was a weekend in there also, so three day turnaround is GREAT in my opinion

I love using the brads & the eyelets...I use the eyelet setting w/ the hammer, I don't usually use my eyelets while @ a crop, just in the privacy of our home & the brads are used when away from home mostly because I try not to take a lot of tools w/ me...

I have the MM automatic eyelet setter/hole punch and I LOVE it-it is soooo quiet and easy to use-I can't imagine trying to set something without it.

I don't have a problem with my brads or eyelets messing up the lo that is laid behind, but you could always insert a piece of cardstock between the 2 finished layouts if you think that any damage could occur. Also, the Crop-O-Dile will mean "no hammer" UNLESS you are trying to reach far in to your layout. The Crop's reach is pretty limited, but I usually find ways around that. If needed, I dig out my tool kit and use the hammer and punch. I hope this helps!

I have the MM tool kit that has the setter for eyelets, hole punch for brads and hammer etc - our local scrapbook store has a silent setter which I might need to get as I scrap whenever I can find time and don't want to upset the downstairs neighbors!
