True 2x2 Square Punches

I bought a Marvy 2x2 square punch. I wanted to make a 12x12 layout entirely of 2x2 squares of photos, pp and journaling. After getting everything punched out, I realized that it was much larger than 12x12. So I had to go back and trim all the squares down. No it was not my 12x12 which really wasn't 12x12 either but it was much closer than the squares ended up being.

I even measured the punches at M's to see if I just got a bad one. These were all too big too. These squares measured 2 1/8" x 2 1/8" so if you did 6 of these across or down, you'd end up with with almost 13 inches.

I still plan on using this punch but I STILL need a 2x2.

So, I was wanting to know ...

1) did we just get a bad batch in my area?

2) Is the Paper Shapers 2 Inch Square punch a true 2x2?

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I was planning a LO similar to yours, and was going to buy the same punch! I would have never thought to actually measure the punch.

So, does anyone have a true 2x2 punch?

I know that both of these punches are described as approximately 2" square. I understand the nature of metal dies and they do have a variance depending on temperature when they were made and a very slight variance on the temperature of the room currently. One-eighth inch difference is a bit too much in my opinion.

Slightly under 2" would be better in my opinion, too. At least that way, it would still fit on a 12x12 without trimming down.

Viv, you could call or e-mail Marvy and ask them if it's supposed to be a true 2x2. Otherwise, I don't have any suggestions. What a bummer!

I agree on both points - 1/8 inch is a lot to be off, and I'd rather the punch be slightly smaller than 2".

I can cut 2 inch squares with my cricut, but it would be much faster, and easier, if I had a punch.

Guess I'll take a ruler with me to M's and HL today and see what theirs' measure. I'll let you know if I find a true 2" punch.

I prefer the punch to the Cricut. Way faster and easier to line up on a photo or get the exact location on a patterned paper .

I think the "approximate" covers these variances. At least my punch works. In one of the reviews here, one punch didn't work right.

so many times you can't even see the CUTTING part of the punch in the packaging either,,,,There's usually a print of the shape on the handle, but I've found it's not exact to size half the time either,,,,,

so hard to know,,,,

If I wasn't so broke, I'd order the Paper Shapers one but as it is I need $$$ for my annual ATG order.

I have the Paper Shapers 2x2 punch and love it! It is a true 2x2.

I love my marvy 2x2 punch...it is a true 2x2. I used it a TON! You must have a gotten a bad one?

It's really irritating me. Only one place here carries the 2x2 punch and I've measured them. They're all 2 1/8" x 2 1/8"

Yesterday I tried making squares with my little guillotine (bypass) trimmer and I just couldn't keep it precise enough.

I just checked my CM punches and none of them are 2x2. Sorry!
