Hidden journaling and sheet protectors

Another newbie question here:
It seems common to include hidden journaling, or brochures, or other things that need to be lifted, moved, etc within the page. But every album I've seen is made of sheet protectors - so how do you access any of those aspects? I saw a great suggestion to put cards at the top of the page, so that the cover could go outside the sheet proector, but that wouldn't work all the time. Is the idea that you have to remove the page from the album to see those details? Or do you carefully slice the cover at the appropriate place?

I must be missing something here ....

Sometimes journaling is just for the scrapper so it's not entirely meant for everyone who looks at it to pull it out and read it. But I usually tell whoever is looking at my book that there's something they can pull out and look at.

I know some people also cut into the protector to allow them to reveal the hidden journaling without removing the entire page. I haven't done that, but it's fairly common!

This is a problem, and there are all types of great adhesives out there that you can add to your project and then adhere to the outside of the sheet protector. But you do need to realize that the project won't be protected. But if that doesn't matter then just add it outside of the sheet protector. It is a little "outside the box", but can be done.

Thanks everyone! I thought maybe there was some magic fix I was just missing. I'll keep on - assuming that the need to "touch" will be rare enough that the page can be pulled out and maybe making a few slices / outside pockets as well.

In terms of newness, well, I bought my first set of supplies in 2006. But I didn't really get into it until the last few weeks, so I consider myself very, very green. It's nice having one, fixed project though (I'm working on one big vacation that will be its own album) as I feel like I'm learning a lot to then apply to all those boxes of photos that I'm in denial about ....
So much great stuff in these forums, and I've been drooling on some of the gallery pictures!

What I do is put my page in & then mark the spot where the journaling needs to be pulled out. Then I take the page out, put in a thick piece of chipboard or a small cutting mat and make a slit in the protector. Then when I put the page back in, the journaling can be easily accessed, but yet still be protected.

I simply cut a slit in the page protector. Works pretty well for me:)

Some of mine is so hidden that frankly, my kids will be finding journaling from me long after I am dead,,,,,like when they take them out of the albums to divvy them up to individual albums after my funeral,,,this is purposeful. I kind of like the idea that they won't know it's there until,,,,,well,,,,until they should. Which is whenever it's SUPPOSED to happen

And some of it I've got the page protector sliced and tied together with pretty ribbon, so it's pretty clear that it's SUPPOSED to be opened for a reason

Well, now I have learned what hidden journaling is. Unitl I read this thread, I thought it was like those "hidden picture" puzzles that used to be (maybe still are) in the Highlights Magazine. My Mom subscribed to those for me when I was a child - many, many, many, many, many moons ago.

I have also done hidden pics or journaling by using 2 sheet protectors and making an outside 'pocket' for the item that can be flipped up or to the side. This works also to make a small stack of pics, like from a vacation, and use them all. After cutting the pocket the proper size and leaving a long enough tail for it to flip easily without bending the pic or journaling, I attach to the page protector with adhesive that is clear and I cover, if needed, with ribbon, a strip of card stock or other embelishment.

Forgot to say, you can use 1 protector for doing this several times depending how large or small the pocket you need.
