I have the Vika desk with just the round legs. I had ordered one shelf for one side and it came damaged so when I returned it, I opted for just the round legs.
That desk looks awesome! Way too big for my space, though. I do have the Melltorp occasional table, which I just purchased this month. I love love love it. I have a pic of it in my gallery. I use it as my die cutting station. It's the perfect height for it.
I agree...it looks so cool but its too big for our space too. I so love the color!!!
I do have the Expedit shelves and a secretary's table all from Ikea.
how is the quality on the shelf? I was looking at that for my cricut/cuttlebug/sizzix station(my worktop is supposed to be delivered today) but didnt want to drive 2 hours to get one and then found out shipping on the 69.99 8 cube one is 159.43 (acccck!) so i ended up getting jetmax cubes from ms when they were 55% off on thanksgiving night. but even for 13.50 a piece I am not impressed with the quality(I have the store and style cubes from OTC for my current scrap station and the sides and shelves are twice as thick as the jetmax. So now I am considering making the 2 hour drive to get the expedit.
I did just see they have one that is only 59 inches long but it doesnt comin in as many colors. I also saw you can buy buy the bottom part seperately and get whatever top you want.
They do have a smaller version. It doesnt come in red. But they do sell the bottom parts individually in red and you can put whatever top you want on them. How do you like the expedit shelves? is the quality good/ i see alot of them in the scrapbook gallery. I had looked at it the 8 cube one for my cricut/cuttlebug/sizzix station but didnt want to drive 2 hours to get one and shipping on it is 159 bucks so I got the jetmax cubes from michaels on turkey day when they were 55% OFF. bUT EVEN FOR 13.50 A PIECE i AM NOT ENAMORED OF THE QUALITY. I GUESS i AM SPOILED BY MY store in style cubes. Don't want to spend the money for those again though. the expedit seems like a good compromise.
Vika desks come in a variety of finishes and sizes - you buy the top and legs separate. The shelf on the Vika was damaged when I opened the package so I saved money by going with the round legs only (more leg room under the desk).
The desk legs come in a variety of styles - some are extendible so you can set it up at counter height. Some are shelves, some are just the round screw in legs, some are like "saw horses" adjustable in height. Just look at all the Vika options and piece yours together.
I was going to go with a Vika desk for the centre of my room with a desktop that was shorter and wider but the Melltorp table was a better deal for the same size surface.
The Expedit shelf is pretty sturdy. I paid for shipping as I had no one with a truck to help drive it let alone lug it up my stairs so ended up buying the desk, Expedit, table and a vanity table for my room at the same time to make the shipping worth it.
Expedit gets expensive if you want to get the doors for it and such but I found fabric baskets to put in the cubby holes.
The cropper hoppers do not fit in the cubbies though in case you wanted to store your paper holders in there.
Thanks for the info. I am only looking at the 8 cube one and will probably use a couple to display things and most of them for albums. I see alot of them in the gallery with clear paper holders in them? I assumed(well u know what they say about that) that they were the cropper hopper ones but maybe not? I have my original scrap center (the computer will be going on the small work area and the printer underneath. My paper is in the 4 cubes under the desktop. They are scrap in style ones with the divider shelves. i put doors on because I didnt like the way all the paper looked without. Now unfortunately I realized that some of them the shelve grooves aren't on the metal support on one side so they are lopsided. And I would rather have the shelves divining up and down but they go side to side. You can't get the door off without completely taking the cubes apart apparently. I contacted the company and the girl told me she doubted anyone in their office knew how to get the door off. So i guess I'll just keep my paper there as not much else would fit.
The 8 cube Expedit for showcasing and albums will be perfect. I just had the luxury of a large-ish room and lots of stuff that needed a spot to put it on.
Once my room is clean I'll post it here. It is pretty good - not fab like some scraprooms and the layout and placement of some supplies will change as I actually use my room and see what should go where based on use.
Yes the doors have the kinda of thing that u push the pin down and it pops into the hole so there is no way to get it out once it is on unless you take it out. My room won't be fabulous either but I am trying to make it as nice as possible.
