Capturing Paw Prints?

I want to do a lo and actually have one of my dog's paw prints on it, like he walked on the page. I've thought about using distrssing ink or paint and putting on his paw and having him stand on paper, but I have horrible visions of him walking away and leaving prints everywhere! Plus, I've never used paint on a lo and it frankly scares me. Has anybody done this? Any ideas?

Take him outside to do it, that way if he walks around it won't stain anything. I have used ink and paint to do my dogs, she "signs" her names on cards with her paw print. LOL

I was just looking at a magazine today that had a layout about paws. Basically they just had a close up picture of the cats paws.

I agree with Heather.

OUTSIDE. And maybe use water-based, acrylic paint, and sponge it on your dog's paws. Have several pieces of paper available in case one gets messed up.

And, have someone there with a camera to capture the moment.

I can tell you, I doubt my dog would be very cooperative.

Great ideas, ladies! I wanted to do this too! i have so much pet paper and embellishments I need to use up!

Any of you know of any Pet challenges for June? I have some new layouts of my girl Sophie and and want to show them off!

i was just thinking of doing this!

A friend suggested Crayola non toxic paint which is washable. Then you can spray archivers spray over it once it dries

Thanks for the ideas! I know he's not going to be happy with me for doing it, but it'll be too cute- the pics are of him wallowing in mud, so I want the muddy footprint look.

i want to do this with my cats but i cant take them out can i now,lol they are indoor spoiled divas rofl

I was thinking about doing this with my dog. But she's a lil hyper!!!! lol

I did it, and my dog gave me a few funny looks, but he behaved. I used a Tim Holtz distress ink pad (thought it would be easier than paint) and rubbed all over his paw pads, then put it down on the paper. It didn't come out as dark as I would have liked, but it's there, and I think it looks cute.

FYI, ink comes up of tile pretty easily.

I used to do this with my cat all the time. Lucky for me she was a really patient cat for the most part. The only thing I can suggest is to have a damp cloth with you so as soon as you're done with the impression you can blot the ink off of your cat's paw.

We take our cats out on a harness and leash. my older (19 year old) cat was not happy as she is used to be out but with all the wild animals moving in.... but the little one who has done this since we got her loves it. You might give this a try.

I have let my cats "sign" their own christmas cards for years. I used the crayon water based ink markers.
I also collected any "fallen out" whiskers over the years and have used those in few LO. They take alcohol inks well and a bit of interest to the pet LO as well as sentimental tid-bits.

My dog "signed" a peice of paper for me without my permission. He came running in with dirty paws and stepped on a piece that was on the ground. I was torn between thinking it was icky cs that I planned to recycle and that was why it was down on the ground to start with and ...wanting to save it. I tossed it and decided I would make another some time with him if I want it. I KNOW he will cooperate.

What about using like carbon paper and have him step on that. I saw in a magazine that they do something like that for animals and babies. Found it. It is called the paw stamp. I am not sure if I can post the web site for it though but anyone can pm for it.

Hi, as a nurse I have worked with newborn babies for years. We use an inkless footprint pad to get footprints. From experience, I would recommend putting the pawprint on a separate piece of paper and then attaching it to your layout. It can be hard to get a good print on a wiggle baby or uncooperative pet! Not sure where you can buy the inkless pads, you can google it and see.

I have been wanting to do this for a while with my kitty Cleo but never have done it. I think she will cooperate because she is a really patient kitty. I am not sure what I will use though since I don't want her to lick her paw and there be any left to make her sick. I think I am going to try it soon. I thought maybe i was crazy for wanting to do it but now I don't think I am.

this was great thread for me to read I've been trying ot figure out a way to do this so i can have my dog's pawprint tattoed on my back! I can do a layout with it too! How i got the pawprint then the tattoo!
