Teach me the ways of Alcohol Inks

Seriously, pretend I'm a 5 year old from an alien planet and explain this to me. Everything you know. I'm ready to do this but I want everyone's best info, opinions, tutorials, brands...duke it out if you have to.

I don't have any alcohol inks, so no personal experience to share, but...

Ok this is great...and I have watched a few and I plan to watch more...

But I need more basic info than I'm getting so far.

I really know zero about these.

What materials can you use them on?
What materials can't you use them on?
What is their primary purpose?

Alcohol inks are for non-porous surfaces like metal, plastic, glass etc. You can buy blending solution to mix up the colours or fade them out, but they are not used for working on papers or cardstocks.

Alcohol inks are fast drying inks. They work best on the stuff Kimmi stated. There is an applicator that you can use to blend them with special solution and also metallic mixatives.

I use them on Acrylic, Grungeboard, metal, glass, etc....

Alcohol inks work really great on glossy cardstock. (I use glossy photo paper) You need a felt applicator and some blending solution to get the best use of your alcohol inks. I learned how to use them from Jennifer McGuire's tutorials. I think she's on the design team for Hero Arts, so you can probably find her there. Or you can go straight to the source and check out the tutorials available from Ranger.

I like using the inks with the pens on transparencies. You stamp an image with stazon on one side and you color it in on the other side ... very pretty. I also love the polished stone technique on glossy paper ... beautiful for cards.

And yes, I also think Tim is a cutie patootie ... he was too adorable on HSN the other day.

I think this might be the next thing I get into. I got into mists and sprays and inks and now the flood gates are open!

I agree that TH is cute and he has good hands. I love a man with good hands! Even if they only like to touch other boys. LOL
