How to stamp candles??

I was looking through the galleries and found a bunch of candles that were stamped/inked and was wondering what kind of techinique is involved in this?? I thought these would make really cute easy personalized gifts - if anyone could help me out that'd be great!

Hi Pearl!! I love stamping candles!! First you take a piece of tissue paper... you can use any color, but I prefer white. You stamp the image on the tissue (make sure you have paper underneath, it will bleed through). Color it however you like. I've used chalks, ink from the ink pads, and markers.

Then you cut the images out and place them where you want on the candle, you might need to do this one side at a time. Then you take a sheet of waxed paper, and wrap it tightly waxed side down around the candle. Heat it with your heat gun until you see the image "melt" into the candle. Remove the wax paper and voila!!!

you can use parchment paper too, valeria, like the paper you put down when you are making candies so they dont stick, or between layers of cookies.

Will you know when it is melted into the candle?

does it have to be a heat gun? has anybody used anything else?

Blow dryer didn't get hot enough.... you will know b/c the tissue paper almost disappears.

Wax paper: bought anywhere you can buy baggies, reynolds wrap, etc......

You can also stamp directly into the candle, if you melt it a little first with a heat gun. then you can press the candle into the warm wax. Pull the stamp out and then your image will be in the candle.. you can then take a product called rub and buff (which is like paint) and sponge/paint it into the candle. I did this years ago and stamping class I took!

humm oki this may sound stupid but here it goes hehe ,i though i was supose to take the tissue of when i was done with the heating gun ....... dont laught

but wont the paper burn if you leave it on the candle ,i just thought it migth be dangerouse to leave it on ......

Nope, it's so thin it will be fine, most bigger candles don't melt all the way to the edges anyway. Some people with the larger candles will burn it for just a while enough for there to be a hole, then put a tealight inside and only burn the tealight. That way it preserves your candle with all your beautiful work!

I've also heard that you can emboss an image on to the tissue paper before attaching it to the candle..

yes, but be careful when you heat it up again. I heard parchment paper works better than wax paper for embossing, the embossed image wont stick to teh wax
