Want to use scrapbook to propose!! Need ideas!!

Hello everyone. I have been a long time reader of these forums and there is a wealth of knowledge here so I decided to make my first post. I really like the idea of proposing to my girlfriend with a scrapbook. It is something tangilbe that she can hold and look at years down the road to remember the exact moment when we were to become one. Ive scrapped before ( she actually got me into it years ago) but I just want it to really be perfect and not look back later and say, "I wish I would have done this or that". My initial idea was using the pictures and using "our story" written out in words a little on each page leading up to the question. Im just hitting a brick wall now. Could anyone give me a hand and let me know if youve seen anything done like this before or add some of your own ideas. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance!!!

Great idea! I haven't seen anything like that before. I'm sure she'll love it. Maybe include a "future" section with pictures of older couples doing things you guys want to do one day (hanging out with grandkids, touring another country, etc.)?

This is so wonderful! It is really quite special. I like your idea of "Our Story." Do you want to tie the engagement ring with a ribbon onto the proposal page? That would be neat!

Maybe you could do page titles starting with "will you" questions like "will you go out with me?"..."will you spend Christmas with me?" etc. and end with "will you marry me?"

You know, I can't imagine that anything you do won't be perfect! The very idea of her looking at this "Gift", turning the pages and reading a little bit at a time about your relationship is just so awesome and romantic.

Personally, I would not worry to much about a lot of techniques and design. A picture or two on each page..Maybe beginning the album with something like 'It all started when.... Then the page talk about when you met, then first date, and so on. Flowers, you can't go wrong using flowers and hearts. Are you planning on putting the engagement ring in the book??

What a wonderfully romantic idea! Have you thought of going with a fairy tale theme? use Once upon a time for the title page, there was a guy (page about you) and a girl (page about her) and they met..(page about how you met) they spent lots of time together doing lots of things, (page about things you've done dating) one day the guy/prince decided that this was the girl for him and so.. then end with, will you be my happily ever after? or something cheesey like that.

All of these ideas are great - love melissa's layout ideas with the questions, and susan's engagement ring on a ribbon on the proposal page - I can see a multitude of fantastic ideas cropping up on this thread over the next couple of days!

There was actually a guy who did a scrapbook on here a few years ago to do a proposal. You should search for that thread.

I think this is a beautiful and romantic idea. What a lucky girl. I love your idea of telling your story your way. Maybe you could do a wedding page as the "last page" with and title it Will you complete this story with me..will you marry me?

I love johnsusan's idea of adding the ring to the last page, and maybe the title could read something like "To Be Continued" Another thing I thought was to help w/time is to do an 8x8 album or maybe even an index scarpbook. Depending on when you plan to propose, because we know how long they can take. One pic per page w/simple design wouldn't take too long or have you worrying about how much to add to it. I sure hope you will share your LOs when you do each of them. That would be great. Unless she visits here too. Then you busted! LOL I wish you all the luck w/everything.

Thank you guys so much I am actually going to be using some of the ideas you guys posted. I think ive figured out the main "idea" of how im going to do this. Im not sure if you have seen those "Once upon a time" mat stacks and 12x12 albums that some scrap stores sell but im going to do it in that theme of fairy tale/medieval. What I just spent the last 9 hours doing was writing a short story about our life. But instead of it being a regular story I put our situations in to fit the theme of the scrapbook. Ill quote an example from the story and give you the real life version so you can see where im coming from.Here is the fairytale version-- "There was a point in time where XXXXXX had brought up getting a pet. So he traveled all across the lands searching for the perfect pet for his love. After days of searching he finally stumbled upon the perfect pet, although it did take several hours of battle to subdue.. He had managed to round up a feared and terrifying dragon."--now what had actually happened was i just drove to the store to get her an iguana. But thats what I did with the whole story so when she reads it its like a fairy tale and the real life situations are kind of amplified through the story but she will understand what really happened. Im not going too elaborate with the 12x12, I wont get to propose until next year if I do. Just do the story a little on one side and then use a picture or two on the other so she can read and ill tie the story of that page with the pictures. I will try to put up the layouts once everything is finalized. Thanks again for your help, now I just need to figure out how im actually going to "propose" if you know what I mean. Not sure how Im going to present it to her. Thanks!!!!

if you have her read the journaling out loud, as she gets to the part where it says "and they lived happily ever after when xxxxxx asked her to marry him", you could say the words with her as you are presenting her with the ring

I second the engagement ring on a ribbon,,,,but I'd hide it a bit Make her search for it just a bit Maybe put it on the ribbon with half a dozen other charms,,,,and use charms throughout the book as well,,,,,

Maybe make a fairytale about a prince and a princess,,,,,with her beign the princess and you being the prince, or something,,,,

This topic is incredibly romantic but when I read this I got goosebumps!!!! The suggestion of reading the last page began playing out in my head

Another suggestion, take a picture of you holding the ring proposing. When she sees that page with the picture, she could look up and see you proposing just like the scrapbook. Then for the last page the two of you could decorate her saying yes together as a symbol of your lives coming together, two becoming one. Congrats!!

I love all these great ideas! This would be every girl's dream. How about the final page saying, "The Beginning" (instead of "The End").

i helped a friend do one of these it was soo much fun

we did weve come along way

and did pages of them dating and in school and even before he knew her with the quote before i saw you i knew you were beautiful before i knew you i loved you before i dated you i was lost we added prom and trips their son and on the last page it said weve come so far but weve got so far to go and i dont want to live another day with out you in it

will you marry me? and we put his ring in the book but after she said yes she wanted to wear it DUH so we went out and got a BIG ring sicker and put it where the ring use to be

she thanked both of us for months and it sets in her living room and everyday it makes her smile

Love this idea!!!! And sure you can't go wrong with this! I wish my DH was just a little bit like you (but, well, when DH proposed me I didn't even know anything about scrapbooking ).
