Krylon to extend use of mat

I have several mats that are no longer very sticky. I read that some people have tried spraying Kryon Repositionable Adhesive on the mat to make it sticky again. How well does it work?

I haven't tried that, but have you tried just washing them and letting them dry? Then, take a lint roller (the sticky kind) and roll on it. It removes all the fuzz that covers the sticky.

I use Quilt Basting Spray. Just a light spritz and you're good to go.

This on was very useful.

I get the empression that she has not tried it so I will tell you the Kryon that I brought.

I sometimes just tape my paper to my cutting mat if the tackiness is gone. I'm not cutting all the way to the edge anyway, so it doesn't hurt anything.

(I don't mean tape under the paper.....I mean I tape the edges to the mat) LOL

Has anyone tried this yet? 2 of me 3 mats won't hold onto a piece of paper anymore and I've picked up some spray repositionable adhesive.... not krylon though as they were out. (I wonder if this use is why!)

I'm happy with how it worked. I used Best-Test Quality repositionable adhesive (acid free). I taped the unsticky parts of the mat with painters tape and sprayed the sticky part with one layer of adhesive. I let it dry (not sure how long - more than the minute it said on the can). It's nowhere near as sticky as a new mat but I consider that a good thing since I had issues with PP being torn when lifting it from a new mat. It's holding nice and tight and I've cut 4 or so pieces of paper since.

I use spray vellum adhesive and it works quite well, but after a while, you just have to buy new mats when they've been cut quite a bit.

Yes, I think I use a higher pressure than I *have* to (but I hate it when I ruin paper by not having the pressure deep enough) so I have oodles and oodles of cut lines in my mats. I'll definitely have to replace them. I'm just glad I'm not going to be going through a mat a month anymore!

Just a Warning!!!

I had done the wash and let dry and then used the lint roller, it worked awesome!

Then my lint roller ran out of layers, so I went out and bought a new one, so I come home wash my board, let it dry and go to roll on the lint brush.. the thing was so sticky it completely took off all the adhesive on my mat!! lol

(luckily just the corner, as soon as I started rolling I noticed and stopped right away) so just be careful not to use a super tacky one!!

I'd recommend just regular masking tape and dabbing the area! lol

I'm going to go out now and try this Krylon spray though

the newer mats don't hold their sticky very long. I use Alene's Repo Tacky Glue spray. it works pretty good but it's super duper sticky. you can use a tshirt or something to lightly tap over the spray or make sure you're using heavy paper. i wouldn't recommend trying to cut on vellum after just spraying it.

The brand I mentioned is not that sticky. It was fine with PP right away. But then, of course, didn't stay sticky long. I'm going to keep my eye out for Alene's Repo Tacky. I may keep one mat 'not so sticky' and another 'really sticky' for different papers. Thanks for the tip!

When I use this on it stay sticky for awhile and I have done PP and cardstock.

I got it from michaels, its also at walmart, so I'm assuming you probably could?

Although, spray it outside.. and on somehting you can throw away

i sprayed it on my craft mat that I just wash and it's still sort of sticky hehe

i tried it and it worked for about 5 sprays but then got built up and I had to buy 2 new mats

I'm envisioning the build up being an issue too. I wonder if it could be scrubbed off or otherwise removed.

I wash my mat in between spray treatments.

When the stickiness starts to go I will wash the mat. Then do the spray treatment.

After the stickiness starts to go down again I will wash the mat. Then spray treatment

I continue to do this until the mat is unusable because of too many cutting groves.

Just remember, this voids your warrenty with Cricut-Provo. But, I will try this with my mats as they too have lost there stickyness...washing worked really good...

I read on the cricut message board that some people have used a product called Wacky Tack?? A liquid that they put on. Has anyone tried this. Also, some people put the adhesive from a Xyron on their mat.

I been using Krylon Easy-Tack Rpositionalbe Adhesive 7020 for about two months and it is still going strong.

I finally tried the Krylon. I cleaned all of my mats and taped off the edges. Then, I sprayed a very light coat and let them dry. I put the clear plastic back over them once dry. They were A sticky as the original mats were. I sprayed a second light coat. This improved things. On two of them I even sprayed a third coat. I did very light coats because I didn't want to mess up and put too much on and have them gunky. This did the trick. Although they weren't as sticky as the mats were originally, the paper stuck to them just fine. Both pp and cardstock.

I found the Krylon spray at Michaels.

yeah i wasn't to happy w/ my outcome, but imma wash my mats here in a few days and do it... i jsut get so lonely in my sbook room... mondays seem to be my night - the hills & scrappin!
