Scrapbook for 21st birthday?

I could use some help planning a scrapbook for my daughter's 21st birthday. I only have a couple of weeks so I was thinking of 21 two page layouts. But I am having trouble figuring out how to design pages for each year as the pictures for each page will be so different. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

One thing you can do to help unify the book is to pick a theme and keep it in mind while designing the layouts. I usually do themes based on colors, but for a chronological scrapbook you could focus on events or an activity that your daughter has always enjoyed.

A lady at a crop I went to was making her granddaughter a scrapbook and her favorite holiday was Christmas, so she was making a scrapbook of all of her Christmases. I think the granddaughter was about 7, so there wasn't that many actual events. But the book stayed unified with the Christmas theme and turned out really beautifully.

I know that's kind of vague. But there are so many things you can do with this book. Best of luck with the scrapping!

I'm doing the same thing for my niece's 21st. she likes music so i picked 21 songs that remind me of her and am going to scrap the lyrics and also include a cd of all the songs.

Change all your photos to black and white if possible. That would help the pages spanning over time to flow better and make your color choices easier.

Since you're in kind of a hurry, it might make it easier for you to look through books, magazines, and the gallery here and scraplift some layouts so you spend more time creating and less time thinking. Another idea - you could order a photo book from a photo printing website (like shutterfly or snapfish) instead of scrapbooking the whole thing. OR you could do a hybrid book - order a photo book and do the journaling in your handwriting and add embellishments...

What plans does your daughter have for her 21st birthday? If she's going to a casino start an album with a few pages of gambling fun, or is she doing a girls night out? When you make a couple of pages leave a back matting for one or two 4x6 photos to place later. Give her the album just with those pages and tell her you will scrap her the rest of her birthday photos, etc.

Oh and if you look in my gallery I threw my husband a surprise 50th birthday party and scraped a couple of pages I had the guest write their birthday wishes on so I can add it to his album when I get around to it. You could cut cute shapes and get her friends to write birthday wishes with colorful pens and scrap those.

I have known my husband for about ten years now, and when he celebrated HIS 21st birthday I made a scrapbook as a present that he still cherishes today (his mother gave me full access to family photos). It was my first, so I know I was inexperienced. I formatted it almost story book like. Lame as it may sound to some, it actually began with "Once Upon a Time" (ended with "to be continued...", it wasn't The End!) and contained a small amount of story like journaling throughout. A few pages with major baby memories, childhood milestones, biggies from the high school years, ending with our engagement that happened that year and then two decorated but photo-less pages for the birthday. Because it IS such a large span of time, I tied it together by only using paper from one style pack and coordinating embellishments. A little restrictive and photo heavy, but I was proud!!

twenty one double lay outs? that's FORTY TWO pages! That's a pretty heavy undertaking,,I did a wedding album that was 50 LO's and it took about a month!!

If you want to make the album look more uniform and don't want to turn the pics to B&W, but the pics vary in color, why not try doing an album that's heavy on neutrals like B&W, then just use pops of color that match the pictures for each layout?

Frankly, though, if you are doing two pages LOs and therefore making those two pages cohesive, I don't think it's all that important to make sure the whole album matches. People will only see those two pages at a time. In fact, it's been my experience that people don't mind when the two pages facing each other don't even match. I wouldn't worry so much about that; it's a large enough undertaking to organize and scrap all of those photos!

I wrote some notes about creating 22 pages at the same time. (I pasted it below.)
The hardest part was to stay motivated doing a large project. It can get VERY overwhelming very quickly. I think the key is to think of yourself as an assembly line. Create the structure... the foundation of the album. Then add the fancy stuff later. You can get really bogged down in the details.

Notes on creating 22 pages at the same time...
•Picked out pattern paper, solid color paper, and a few embellishments.
•Sorted through photos and printed out the best. (This took several days and a trip to Staples for more ink cartridges & paper.)
•Retouched a few photos in Photoshop. Common reasons; adjusted exposure and added missing edges (usually the top of the photo).
•Trimmed photos and laid out on pattern paper (no glue).
•Sorted through trip memorabilia and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Sorted through stickers, chip board, ribbon, embellishments, etc., and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Printed out a few more photos to fill in the gaps and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Visited the local scrapbook stores for a few embellishments.
•Using LSS die machine & dies made a few custom titles, tags, etc., and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Made some custom journaling tags and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Final trim of photos, ink edges, mat photos, fancy punch a few corners, deco scissor a few, and add some corners frames.
•Cut a few photos into oval & circle shapes and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Finish up titles, add photo captions, write journaling and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Last call…Sort through stickers, chip board, ribbon, embellishments, etc. and laid out on pages (no glue).
•Glue everything down and apply stickers.
•Added a few stamps & stencils.
•Pull out the mighty Crop-a-dile and added some brads.
