What kind of scrapbook album should I use?

I am VERY new to this new hobby.

Me and my boyfriend will be separated by about 100 miles this upcoming fall and until then I'd like to make a scrapbook for my friend. Everyday until we are separated, I want to write a letter to my boyfriend. So I'm hoping each scrapbook page will have that letter and a photo of us.

I'm wondering what kind of paper and what kind of album I should use. I was looking into a 12 x 12 post bound album but what kind of paper do I need?

It would mean a lot to have a variety of responses and I'd appreciate each one! Thank you for reading this!

post bound albums are fine, and they're relatively cheap, but for a beginner, it can be tough to add new pages,,,,,I recommend
D ring albums,,,,,much easier to add pages to, and if he's going to be gone a while, lol, you're going to want to get as many pages as possible in there,,,,,

as for paper, use 12x12 patterned paper and cardstock that you can find in the scrapping section of most stores, including the online store here,,,,,if it's acid and lignin free, you're good to go, though you'll probably have a favorite after you've used several brands,,,,,
they're not all created equal some patterned papers are so much thinner than others

You'll also want a paper trimmer, acid free glue, I recommend a tape runner, some glue dots for small embellishments (buttons, flowers, etc), a pair of scissors, journaling pen, and embellishments as fit your style. A ruler is nice for measuring and marking, and you're off, with just those few basics

When I first started, I could fit everything I owned (except 12x12 paper) into a shoe box

added perk to scrapping while he's gone,,,,you can use scraps to make cards to mail him while he's gone

Another vote for a D Ring album! You can fit a lot more pages in there and it's easier than post bound.

I really like the post bound album because I feel like they look better than the D ring album. D ring albums remind me of my binders for school too much XD

you can find wonderful D-ring albums but postbound will work if you are not adding a lot of embellishments and not alot of pages. Post bounds just dont hold much also they are a royal PIA....but its a personal preferance.

you will want cardstock and patterned paper in what every size you are using (6X6, 8X8, 12X12) Since you are new and wanting to accomplish so much Id recommend a smaller size, they can be found in any scrapbooking section even walmart carries it.

Definitely get a D ring album. It sounds like you're going to be doing a lot of pages, and they'll fit in a D ring nicely. Good luck!

I love We R Memory 3 ring albums. you add and take out easy and they have so many yummy colors and sizes.

I use strap-hinge albums that I order from Hobby Lobby (HL) online.
