Cricut vs. Slice

I'm looking to buy a Die-cutting machine,but I'm not to sure what i want. I was thinking about the Cricut, but then I saw an ad for the Slice and that looks very nice too. So im wondering what might be the best tool for me. I would mainly use it for making 12 x 12 pages. So what are your thoughts? What would you suggest? what's good and bad about them both? Thank you very much :]

The slice can only cut up to 6x6 inches, if that helps?

I took my Slice, cord, all the memory cards, the cutting board, tool kit (minus the glue and anything pointy or sharp) and paper all in the cute Slice carry bag on the plane with me to the CKC convention last week in Portland for my group to have a scrappy party in our hotel rooms at night!

Comparing these two machines with each other, is sort of like comparing apples to green beans!!

As Raquel said the Slice is supper portable and small. It cuts small things. So if you want to cut borders, it's out.

I had a Cricut for awhile and did not like it, to time consuming for me. Adjusting the blade, changing the cartridges, not being able to cut multiple sizes at once. Not to mention storage of the cartridges.

I have the Silhouette and love, I scrap 12x12 and have found a way to cut 12" long borders. I also have the Slice.

I upgraded from a Wishblade to a Pazzles (I still have both though because I like the print and cut feature with the wishblade) so I could cut 12x12 pages... I like not having to have cartridges but I've considered getting a slice as well so that I could have a small portable cutter to take with me to scrap meets. It really depends on what you're wanting to use it for. Like someone else mentioned the slice only cuts 6x6 but it's extremely portable. Then you have to decide if you want to purchase cartridges later on or if you want to go with one that hooks to your computer. I prefer not having to spend a lot of money on cartridges. Hopefully that helps... lol... sorry I'm rambling a bit but every machine has it's pros and cons. =]

I'm sure if I had the room, I'd want to have both, as they do different things. But if you could only have one...then you have to weigh all the factors; cost, space available, cutting needs, etc.

I believe they both have their place. I have both. For different reasons. I got the slice for the embossing. And the Cricut for major cut. But I also have DS, SCAL, and MTC for the Cricut.

I believe you need to think what type of scrapper you are. And I agree with Raquel space.

The Slice can cut up to 4 inches, so if that is what you are looking for it is great. I love the versatility of my Cricut and Gypsy and I can carry it all in a shoulder bag.

i have a shilouette ( wasn't into the cartridges, and i use it with illustrator as well). but im getting a slice soon to do the work of all the punches that i want but will never buy because of the storage and expense, i figure getting the slice and a few cartridges will be cheaper than the punches. that said i like the portability of it. but then i will also be one of those people with both a larger e-cutter (cricut, wishblade, shilo, etc) and the smaller one. but all depends of space and how large you want those little die cuts to be, if your not doing a lot of 12x12 cuts why have a machine that does it when you could spend less on a smaller more compact one.

This is a great question, and I'm glad I found it because I was ready to post my own question on the same subject. M's has die-cutting machines (Sizzix, Slice and Cuttlebug) on sale this week for 40% off, and since I've been wanting to get a die-cutting machine for a while, I figured this was a good time. I think I've got it narrowed down to the Cuttlebug (which I've heard lots of good things about) and the Slice; now I just need to make up my mind. So far I think I would mostly use it for making letters/titles for my pages, although I'll probably get more into shape cutting once I get the hang of the machine.

So a couple of questions about the Cuttlebug...
1. How big is it? I don't have a lot of storage space for my scrapbooking stuff.
2. What is the biggest size that you can cut with it?
3. I know you can cut with all kinds of different dies (not just the Cuttlebug ones) and that you can emboss with it, but does it do anything else (i.e. cut multiple items once)?

I looked at the slice and considered selling my cricut to buy the slice. After thinking about it, I kept my cricut. I want the 12" capability, I use it OFTEN! Plus I have the DS, it's so much easier to place shapes/alphas with the DS and use all of my carts at once if I want. It's really not that big of hassle if I need to take the cricut somewhere or even easier, cut what I need before I leave.

Do any of you have the jukeboxes to go with the cricut? If so do you like them?

I love the cricut because I can cut big things. The slice only cuts small. A friend of mine has a cricut, has had it for some time. She was looking into getting a sizzix bigshot. She like myself has the original sizzix. She decided to get a slice instead. She was tired of buying letter stickers and having a bunch of letters left but not enough to spell anything. She goes to a lot of crops so she can take the slice with her to cut small letters.

The Cuttlebug is a manual die cutting machine, so it will only cut the dies you purchase; you cannot change the size. It folds up when not in use, which saves on space. I chose to go with the BigShot/BigKick from Sizzix as my research lead me to the understanding that it worked with more dies than the Cuttlebug. You can check out the compatibility chart linked in an earlier post. If I'm not mistaken, they will be releasing longer plates for the Cuttlebug, at which time you will be able to use the longer border dies.

Its great for my needs. very reasonably priced with the 40% off (craft stores wont accept coupon for cricut) its compact and easy to use. the down side is that you cannot change the size of the font. I think it would be great if the cuttlebug could cut long borders! I'll be on the look out for this

it will usually say in the fine print excludes cricut and cartridges. Probably because it is such a high priced item. Big investment to buy a cricut

I like the cuttlebug to make my own embellies. you can use pretty much use any die cut with it. I geuss you could say it cuts paper pieces and you layer them together to make a flower or butterfly or whatever....of course the cricut or slice or silhouette has alot more fancy options to choose from but comes with a big price tag
