photo album vs scrapbook vs baby book

I know that its my decision ultimately but if I felt strongly about it I wouldn't be here! Here are my questions: I have a small scrapbook. I'm new to this and don't want to get overwhelmed - and it was a gift. At first I wondered what to do with the ultrasounds that I have (photo album or scrapbook or baby book) and finally decided to choose two and scrap them. I have three other shots from the first u/s(a hand, a foot, etc) and two shots from another u/s (whole body, a foot, I think). So what do I do with the other u/s that I have? Put them in his baby book? Scrap them? (its a half-size book so 5 more u/s means 3 more pages!) Photo album? All 3?

Same question for pictures of him - scrap one or two shots but repeat them in the photo album and baby book?? Or is the rule of thumb no repeats? Heck its not like I don't have enough pictures, after all! Its just that you fall in love with one or two shots and then its hard not to plaster them everywhere!!

I would scrap 1 or 2 of the u/s pictures and put the rest in a safe box or his baby book. I would make copies of the u/s pics to scrap though because they do fade.

As for his pictures, I would go through what you have and pick out the ones you really want to scrap. The ones that inspire you and again, store the rest. There are no rules in scrapbooking, if you ask me, and if you want to scrap a picture twice, I say go for it. Good luck!

So if I'm understanding correctly, you are planning on having a photo album, a baby book, and a scrapbook? You can repeat anything you want anywhere you want, of course. Have you thought of possibly combining the baby book/scrapbook? Then you could scrap those really great pics, and put the rest in a photo album. Just a suggestion. Are you planning on taking up scrapbooking as a hobby, or are you just wanting to do this one since it was gifted to you? If you're planning on continuing scrapbooking past this album combining the baby book/scrapbook might be a good option. If you're just doing this one scrapbook and don't want to repeat things, you could make it a pregnancy album and put the u/s in there with pic's of your belly, thoughts, etc. and then continue the baby book and photo album after he's born. But, yeah, the decision is ultimately yours.

I agree with yor hubby. You could also make copies to put a few faves in the scrapbook too. I too have photo albums (a printed copy of every pic of my DD), a baby book (documented her first year) and a running scrapbook of any pages that strike me (I use copies of my fave photos from the album.)

OKay - I'm thinking this: scrap some pages and insert them in the baby book - using most of the favorites of the ultrasounds. I'm thinking taking the "extras" (a hand, a foot - cute as a button but TOO MANY!), mounting them to match the page and then putting them in an envelope behind the page in the sleeve. It could also go into the phot album (which I'm trying not to fill up before he's even a year - he's 7 months now!)

A good way to save your u/s pictures is to scan them and print them into a small pictures. That way if you want to use all of them you can, and still have the orginals. My sister put her oldest daughters in her baby book and since it is getting darker, soon you wont be able to see the ultra sound. I was not sure if that could happen to all u/s or not. I did that with my sons and I keep it in my wallet, one day I will get around to finishing his scrapbook, yeah and he will be 4 this September. I am so behind.

Oh yeah, I had it sent to Wal-mart through the web and just had the wallet sizes printed out.

I haven't started on my boys baby pictures since I just recently got into scrapping. What I do have for both of them is an album of photos for the first year for each of them. Then they both have the traditional baby book with all the first this and first that stuff. What I did with my second DS was I wrote on the inside front and back covers little things like the date he first had baby food, the date he first rolled over, an slept all night for the first time. I wish I had of done this with my oldest.

Since I have that with my youngest it should make scrapping his photos easier.

I also say do all three or a combination of them. When my mom died I found this box in the attic at her house that she had marked with my name on it. It had my first year photo album and baby book. In the baby book she had written little notes to me. I love having that now that she is gone.

Definitley make scanned copies of your US pics. I never did that and most all mine deteriorated so I can't see anything.

You could scan the pic's and take bits and pieces to make a collage of the US's for any of the books. Also, I have a frame of the hand and foot US's (they're just so cool), and a pic of me pregnant. It's a three pic frame, I get a lot of positive comments about it.
