Decorated Glass Blocks with Vinyl

I love the glass blocks that cricut users are making where they drill a hole and insert mini lights and decorate.

Do you think it would be possible to use a hard acrylic block (like those below) instead of the glass block and mini lights would be safe?

I always wonder if the lights are capable of burning my tree down and they haven't yet. I would say if you were using them for a one time decoration for a party or wedding it would be safe, but I would be chicken to try them in my house for hours at a time.

I would think the mini lights would be safe in the acrylic blocks. Check the lights you have and see if they get warm or hot when they are on for a while, that would be bad. Most of these type lights are made to have them on for hours and do not get warm for that reason. But I don't know if the etching solution would work on acrylic, I thought it was specifically made for glass. you would have to read the label for that. Drilling the hole would be easier, you would not need the glass drill bit, you could use a regular wood drill bit, that would save about $10!
