Best light for scrap room?

  • Capucine
What kind of light is best for a scrap room? I need to change my ceiling light fixture and was wondering if I should stick with a regular light bulb (the energy saving kind) or switch to halogen? I also have a table light on my scrap table that reproduces daylight (looks like a kind of neon). Love it and it's always on when I work.

    Thanks for your input.

I have the daylight one in my room now, and I hate it. It is painful to have that much blue-white brightness overhead! I have my bright tabletop Ott for my desk, and that is really all I need with a normal light in the ceiling... must buy a new bulb...

I have two Ott lights. One is a floor model and the other is a desk top. Love 'em!

Have to agree with the Ott lamp suggestion- I have 2 floor lamps plus one desk top one (Joann's with 50% off Coupons 2 yrs ago). My room does have 3 tables for working, and I find these supply me with plenty of natural work area light.

Maybe I need a floor Ott lite, because the one I have just isn't doing it for me
    I MUST GO BIGGER HAHA

Do they make OTT bulbs for the ceiling? I have the equivalent for my table.

Me, too. I have the floor crook neck ones and they are so versitile. At my counter I two have double fixture wall sconces with natural light energy saver bulbs.

I got daylight spectrum CF bulbs, 100 Watt equivalent ($7 at Home Depot). I LOVE them- colors look like they should now.

Daylight is best, but barring that ott-lites or CFB's are getting much better.

Changing the ceiling light can be a hassle, I guess you can try a floor lamp like the Brightech Litespan LED (on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Brightech-Litespan-Crafting-Dimmable-Adjustable/dp/B00VJ4SK62/ ). It's very bright (2,000 Lumens) on the highest intensity mode, but it is dimmable too. So you can use it both to brighten up the entire room and to get focused lighting for your work. Very easy to move to where you need it the most. Perfect for detailed craft work. Love it. Only thing is it’s designed as a task lamp so I can’t adjust the light color temperature - I like a more yellow hue because I often work in the scrap room at night and don’t want my sleep to be affected.

I have reviewed the lamp at https://www.hookedtobooks.com/best-floor-lamps/ in case you need more information on it.

I have a portable OTT light and I have 4 Ott bulbs in my ceiling and I HATE them. Ott lights cash a bluish tint and I can't match anything.

When I turn my ceiling fan lights on which are Otts - you can see the bluish glow in my scraproom from outside when driving down the street! Looks like an alien landed in one room.

I talked to a friend whose husband is a professional artist and she said he hates Ott lights because it turns things bluish.

Some of my scrapbooking friends love Ott lights but I'm not a fan. I think there are better options. Much better!
