I love these sketches. Nothing too hard to scramble my brain with.

Lovely to come home from 24 hours away and see some new sketches - who doesn't love a Norma sketch challenge!

We had a great time with my son - his baby boy is almost walking and is so adorable - he is such a smiler! He had a little top on with a skeleton outline - what a cutie - I see a bit of scrapping in the near future!

We spent Saturday in York - one of the UK's oldest cities. I really wanted to take my dil (from S Africa) and granddaughters round York Minster - which is the cathedral there. They have now visited Coventry cathedral - which was rebuilt after the original cathedral was bombed in the war, so its modern and so beautiful - and now they've seen one of the oldest. I was so glad we went, and they were all blown away by the vaulted ceilings and the golden bosses. I got my 7 year old granddaughter to stretch her head right back and work out how they painted the bosses!! We then walked the streets of York - I got some lovely Christmas goodies, and they got clothes. We walked down the very tightly packed tiny street which was used in the filming of Harry Potter.

We accidentally left a very important soft cuddly toy in the hotel but than heavens he was found and we picked him up after 'doing' York - crisis averted!
  • Sewflake
Wonderfull sketches. I forgot yesterday to check…ready to have some creative fun!
  • Sewflake
Rachel, glad you had a lovely few days.
Glad the cuddly crisis was averted!
Hope things are on a more even keel at the moment.

I checked in yesterday, but my post is not here ( emoji

My FIL is doing better and they have moved him to a regular room. He was moved to a chair yesterday for a short bit and he was very unhappy about having to move. I had to gently remind him he would have to work on getting strength back in his left arm so he would be able to get up out of his recliner and into his EV (electrical wheelchair) otherwise he would be limited to only his bed and would be required to go to assisted living. I know he wants to go back to his apartment so I am hoping that is the push he needs to do the physical therapy. I think he may be in the hospital all this week.

Yesterday was my 29th anniversary. Dh bought me flowers and Wisconsin cheese and a cheese tray. He said cheese was the traditional gift flushed emoji I don't know where he got his information from! But he did better than me because I completely FORGOT confused emoji We went to a "nice" dinner, which was really just average and not worth the price we paid-we both agreed to mark that restaurant off of our list for future outings.

And this morning I decided to give Roxy half of the chicken biscuit I did not eat on Friday and threw it in the microwave to warm up for 11 seconds. When I opened the door the bag was on fire! I forgot the biscuit was in a wrapper that had aluminum. DH quickly grabbed the oven mitts and grabbed the glass tray and burning bag and threw them in the sink while Roxy and I just stared. DH keeps telling me I'm going to burn down the house, but I always thought it would be with my straight iron eyeroll emoji

I have got to get my act together. I hope I can establish a new routine that allows for more me time though DH has really stepped up to help so I appreciate that I am not feeling like I am doing it alone.

Ok, I probably overshared and it has nothing to do with card making! Here's to a week of crafting and making and enjoying what we love.

    Norma
  • Njr007
Lisa can you please pm and confirm your address, thanks
  • Sewflake
Norma, there is no over sharing between friends. We are all in this together and it is nice to read what happens in our lives that effect not only us personally but what helps/hinders our crafting and creativity.
I have started fires on the stove in the past, picture wok, high heat, oil! Good thing the wok had a lid, long oven gloves, helping hands (DH), and a door in the kitchen to the back yard.
So happy to read that your FIL is coming along. PT seems to be harder for some people. I wonder if it is more men than women? Or maybe just a mind set of always doing what is required. Anyway hope he will feel like doing "what is required" before long.

I am putting away my Maremi images and going to start on the sketches.
Starting with a "blank slate" seems to work better for me than trying to get printed images to work.
    Hope its a creative week.

  • Tena E.
Norma, Happy Belated Anniversary! Sorry the restaurant wasn't the best but you two were together for an evening out so that's great. Glad your hubby was there to help with the microwave fire...but poor Roxy was probably wondering what happen to his snack. Hope your FIL starts listening to you more so his recovery goes well.

I rarely even use my microwave and wouldn't even have one but hubby would be lost without it. I have an electric store and I'm always setting the eye covers on fire. I know which knob goes with each burner but somehow I still manage to turn on the wrong one on and wonder why there's something burning. Those covers are not cheap either so I always have an extra set on hand LOL.
  • AdeleR
Lovely sketches that I can use for more Christmas cards. I hope I can actually mail them this year, my daughter and I already decided that we're sending our Christmas things earlier, just in case of a strike!

I am not as happy with the look of the end result as I had hoped to be. I will probably try another one using the same sketch.

Norma, def not oversharing, we are hear to listen and vent and pass along some great how to's. OMG I could just see it now, I'm cracking up only bc I've done the exact same thing! Poor Roxy, still waiting for her chicken biscuit. I'm not sure if I told you but I caught our grill on fire last month...I mean on fire fire! fire emoji I was running to get the fire extinguisher from our bedroom, couldn't get the thing off of it, trying to call my neighbor while trying to get the thing off of it, finally got the thing off of it, screaming, fire getting bigger, couldn't get the fire extinguisher to work, screaming more, neighbor not home, almost called the fire department, fire_engine emoji reached down to turn off the gas, the entire time thinking my face was going to get blown off, fire was still getting bigger even with the gas off so I took the tongs and started throwing chicken chicken emoji everywhere! Once the chicken was off the grill it started to go out. My neighbor called me back to let me know he wasn't home flushed emoji I told him what happen and he asked if I was ok...I called my husband right after to let him know what happen and he read me the riot act about why you don't use a fire extinguisher on a grill....I promptly hung up on him! Needless to say, I don't cook chicken on the grill any longer joy emoji
Sorry the restaurant wasn't great, that stinks! Not sure I ever heard of cheese for an anniversary but we really don't celebrate ours so...could be eyes emoji yeah, I doubt it...maybe it's a list from France grin emoji Glad your DH is stepping up and helping I know you have to feel less stressed. I hope your FIL gets to come home sooner rather than later.

Hello, it's 2:30 am, just made coffee while I try to help hubby. He isn't doing well as he is in so much pain and he hates taking pain pills. He is growing weaker as he even is slow going upstairs. I told him he should think about using a cane for balance, but the look I got said no way.
I like the sketches and hopefully can get a few cards made. Norma we all are here for each other, even though I have been MIA a lot lately. I struggle to try and keep up with everything, as he does less. I'm anxious to know how his tests come out, and I found out my Ozempic will not be covered so here we go again. My mother in-law used to say it's no fun getting old, now I fully understand what she meant.
  • Debbie.K
Well, I've never started a fire (knock on wood) but I've seen my share from other family members. I don't do the grill, I leave that to my son and growing up my brothers and my dad. My oldest brother learned a quick lesson while grilling one day. It was back in the day before gas grills were around, only charcoal grilling. We ran out of lighter fluid but no biggie, my dad would use gasoline when out. I guess my brother decided he didn't add enough gasoline in his mind so while a small fire was going he decides to pour more gasoline into the fire. I'm sure you can envision where this is going. Yep, the fire followed the gasoline right up to him and burnt off his eyebrows. He's lucky that's all that happened. He was just a teenager so we'll just say his brain hadn't formed yet.

I have not yet started on this months cards yet. So busy working on a couple of Facebook swaps and my Christmas cards. Was in my craft area yesterday until six o'clock that evening. Back was killing me when I was done but I managed to finish one of my Facebook swap items. I'm not sure that I like the way they do their swaps. I'm use to all of us having a partner first before we make our item but they have us make our item, post it in the thread and then when the swap time is just about over, they give you a partner and then you have to hurry up and send it to that person. I'd like to send mine out when I'm done and at my time instead of rushing off to the PO within a couple of days of receiving your partner. And I feel like someone looks at what you make and then decides who they want to give your creation to. In doing this, I have no idea what the persons taste is in color, style or anything else. It's just feels off to me. Norma, you did one of Natalie's swaps on Facebook, what did you think about the way they do a swap?

    Good morning, I am ACU

Sharon thanks for getting us started-nicely done!

Tena and Kimberly thanks, it's been 29 years, but we've know each other since college so it feels like a lot longer rofl emoji

Kimberly you never shared last month you had a fire fire! Goodness that must have been scary because I was scared with the little one in my microwave. BTW why can't you use a fire extinguisher on a grill fire? I don't grill, but we always have one close by when DH fries our turkeys and I wonder if that is a no-no too. Looks like Google is going to get some use today.

Linda I am sorry to hear Rene is not doing well. Why are men so hard headed? My FIL is the same way and only wants Tylenol for his pain. Dh on the other hand will take whatever drugs will stop the pain. I am praying the test results show nothing serious and he can start feeling better and you are not as stressed-sending you lots of hugs.

Debbie I have only done one of Natalie's swaps and turned out she was my swap partner. I was happy with what I received. She definitely runs the swaps different from what I am used to, BUT I think she is trying to match partner skill which is why she is asking us to post our creations. As far as I can see everyone seems talented, I only saw one that was not at the same level as the others but I was once there so I would be happy to swap with anyone I am partnered with. However in my swap she sent lots of extras and I noticed that everyone else was also loading up on the extras which I am not a big fan of. I enjoy a little surprise but not going overboard as I feel the swap item should be the main event. It's already costing me $5 to mail, extras add to the postage. Look at me sounding like an old grouch. I have seen a couple of swaps that seem like fun but I can't commit to anything right now. I am already doing Dawnas Christmas swap so that is the only one I want on my plate right now.

My FIL had the Cath lab done yesterday and they found 95% blockage on his right side and had 3 stints put in. It turned out to be an all day thing-he was supposed to go in at 12:00, but we got a call at 8:00a saying they were taking him to surgery at 9:00a so I just threw on some clothes and headed to the hospital. I was there till 8:30 so it was a very long day. They did not bring him back to his room til until almost 5p (wish I had known because I could have gotten a lot done waiting on him) and he was in a bad mood when he came back. It got rough and this is a side of him I don't like seeing and what's worse is that I think he tamped it down because I was there.
I am headed back up there this morning after I take Roxy for a walk, and she is giving me the eye so I guess I better do that

I hope you all have a great day

    Norma

  • Kimberly Scraps
Norma, I am glad they were able to clear the blockage from your FIL, I hope he is out and in rehab soon.

I have zero idea on why you can't...I don't think it's you can't I think it's you shouldn't bc it would ruin the grill with the chemicals from the extinguisher...IDK bc I was so mad at him for not asking if I was ok I didn't even bother. I got over it but really? Our drunk of a neighbor had the wherewithal to ask if I was ok before he asked anything else but my husband gives me a 5 minute lecture on never ever use an extinguisher on a gas grill. IDK I was always told not to use water on a grease fire and that's what it was so I didn't grab the hose. eyeroll emoji
  • Debbie.K
I finished one today. This one goes towards sketch 5.

Kimberly, I too would have used an extinguisher to put the fire out. Makes perfect sense to me. Next time tell him you're calling from the hospital because you were badly burnt. See how he reacts to that. lol

  • Tena E.
Kimberly, it's okay to use if it's a dry chemical extinguisher, not sure what kind of extinguisher you had and it's also recommended that you try to turn off the gas first, which you somehow managed to do. I'm glad it turned out okay and can understand why you were upset with your hubby.

Norma, glad they were able to clear the blockage from your FIL but sorry he was in a bad mood after the surgery. Sounds like he thinks very highly of you and that says a lot. Hope his recovery continue to go well.

I haven't started on my cards yet but hoping to get maybe one or two done this weekend...I have so many things to get to right now and am starting to feel a bit stressed. I talked with my sister last night, she's doing well after her third round of chemo but wanted to know if I could make or in her words "whip up" a few thank you cards for her...of course I say yes but it may take a week or so. Just another thing on my list...who needs to sleep joy emoji
  • Kimberly Scraps
LOL, I almost did! Great card, this collection is adorable!

    Hi Everyone....

Finally getting to stop in for a minute, its been a rough few days!!
    Congrats to you Lisa!!

    Great sketches Norma!! Happy Anniversary!!

I can't wait to get started. Once I bid adieu to this work week and all of its insanity, I hope to actually sit down and get my ideas in order.

I'll be back to chat again... Just trying to to find some time to breathe!

  • Rolbricht
    Hi you all!

Happy Anniversary, Norma! I hope your FIL will soon feel much better. Your microwave incident would scare anyone! My youngest sister and family lost their house because of some wiring related to the microwave. Not sure just how it happened. My Mom and Dad lost a whole house ( a rented house) from bad wiring and another house (their own) because the Grandkids had been playing with bottle rockets the day before the fire. A few yrs ago Doug and I had a fireplace in our old house. We always collected the ashes in a metal can with a lid until they cooled. When they were cool we would tossed them in the yard if there was snow or rain or into the dumpster. Well, one day I had tossed the cool ashes in the dumpster and set the can of hot ashes outside the house with the lid and a log on top to keep the wind from blowing off the lid. My boys went to school and I went to work. When I got home form work, 3 of our doors were broken into and the front basement entry and part of the front porch had been burned! My husband thought I should have been more careful. He was not happy with me. On top of that, the dumpster was smoking! (we have large metal dumpster) Wish my two little dogs and my two cats could talk. They were all in the house but they were cold, scared and very happy I was home! Needless to say, I always worry about having another fire. When we had this house built we decided NOT to have another fireplace.

Kimberly, years ago a lady came around a corner on a dirt road, coming right at me! I moved to my right as far as I could without going into the ditch. The ditch was less that 3 feet deep but it was very steep. Like almost straight down and narrow...it would not have been a good way to avoid the accident. Anyway, the lady really did a number on my car and the borrowed car she was driving. My husband wasnt in the car but came later. He didnt bother to show any concern about me that day. He was only concerned about the accident being MY FAULT. He insisted I should have gone into the ditch. Well, of course it wasnt my fault. The investigator could see just what had happened. I was so hurt by how my husband acted towards me. Sometimes he is such an A&&! I could tell you more stories...but...and I could tell some stories about his stupid decisions...but...

    Hey Linda! ((HUGS)) to you.

I had a card making class at the senior center today. Some of the people who signed up didnt make it but the four ladies with me enjoyed the crafting.

A couple wks ago, one of the office ladies, Andrea at senior housing next door to us (its where I had worked about 13 yrs) asked me if I would have some crafting classes with the residents. Theyre trying to get the folks out of their apartments to socialize. In particular she asked if I would do card making with them (I did that when I was working there). I told her that I didnt want to take away from the card classes that I do at the senior center and the residents only need to walk down the hall to the senior center to join the classes. So I agreed to do some other things with the residents to see what they do. Some of the residents have known me for years but there are some newer folks I havent met yet. My first date with them is this Friday. Im taking adult coloring books and dot to dot pictures. What do you think about oldsters coloring? I think its very therapeutic.

Wow! I never chat/post that much!
  • Lis1914_469835
    Hi all,

Lots to catch up on I see.

Norma, I hope that your FIL gets better soon. I'm glad they caught the blockage before he got sicker. Happy anniversary to you and your DH(darling husband?) Sorry that your restaurant experience was not all that it should have been.

Boy oh boy, lots of fire experiences. I've always been very careful about fires. My dad liked the outdoors so we had campfires. My dad loved to grill so that was another lesson. I worked in healthcare. Burns of any sort are never good. I am glad that none of you "fire ladies" were hurt. (or your kitties or doggies)

Kimberly, I can see why you might get mad and your spouse doesnt ask you if you are ok.

Ro, you are so lucky that you didnt go into the ditch. You could have rolled the car or worse, I am glad that you were ok. You are getting very popular with your card classes. I bet your students love you.

As for me, I am having a fairly good week. Things got busy for me yesterday. A woman I know asked if I would make her 10 birthday cards. I happily accepted. She asked me what payment for them, but I told her that I would make them for her no charge. she does diamond art and has sent me two boxes filled with drills and gems left over from her projects. I use them on my cards sometimes. They are a much smaller profile.
I haven't started on the sketches yet. I will probably start working on them next week.

Question: I have a photopolymer stamp (one stamp but a set of words) by Pink Fresh. I finally got them out to use them. They are sticky on the side you put the ink. And the stamp has blackened where the words are. I took some stamp cleaner and cleaned it good. The stamp is still sticky. I did some stamping with it. About two thirds of the stamp gives a clear stamped image. Has anyone heard of this before? If so, what did you do, if anything, to correct it? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

I hope the rest of the week goes well for everyone (sans fire).

    Hi, its me again!

I about had a heart attack just now. I clicked on submit button to send my overly long message. The SBC website page paused and then I got a screen on SBC showing "error". I about freaked. All I could think of was ""oh no not again".

Then the SBC page came back to this page and my msg was there. Phew!

    See you all later,

Ro, I'm an oldster and I love coloring. I have a suitcase full of adult coloring books along with markers, colored pencils and sparkly gel pens to use on them. It calms my body to color. When I bought this house it came with a fireplace but I will never use it. The house was built in the 50's so the fireplace is old and no doubt needs work that I can't afford to do. But it is a pretty focal point to decorate but it wouldn't bother me one bit not to have it. In fact I would really prefer the extra wall space for furniture I still have that I can't seem to part with.

The plan is to work on another card today. My sisters are coming over this evening to craft. They are in need of Christmas cards and neither has even started yet. Hopefully we have a productive day of it so they have a few done before heading home.
  • Kimberly Scraps
LIS, I always heard you should "season" your stamps before you use them by either rubbing them on your skin or taking an eraser to them (light pressure). I have heard that on some stamps if you don't they won't ever stamp right. CTMH was good for that. I have a couple of stamps that I forgot to season and they do stamp like you are saying yours does. Not sure you can cure that...I didn't try...but I think next time I pull them out I will take an eraser to them. Good luck!
  • Kimberly Scraps
Oh Ro, why are husband's like that??? I swear I bet we could compare notes on the things our husbands have said to us that are just...grrrr...but I suppose I probably say stuff that gets under his skin but dang I would have at least asked if he was ok before reading him the riot act. Men eyeroll emoji can't live with them and can't live without them...but some times... joy emoji

    Good Morning Ladies!
Lovely morning here, weather is gonna be nice today. I am finally getting a moment to catch up!

Rachel, your trip to York sounds like it was a lovely time!! I have always wanted to visit a place like that.

Ro: I wish I was closer to help with your card making class it sounds like fun!! I used to teach art class here at the center I work, where we provide services to Adults with disabilities... they LOVE making art! I print out TONS of seasonal coloring stuff for them to work on so that I can decorate my lobby. Even the staff gets in on it. haha. Personally I LOVE coloring still... i have quite a few coloring books at home.

Finally printed out the sketches and I can't wait to get started! I have my medical procedure tomorrow, so I will be checked out of the world, so hopefully I will be lucid enough to start Saturday.

    Have a wonderful day everyone!
  • Sewflake
Kimberly is right Lis, I totally forgot about taking the big white eraser to my stamp sets, but usually it is the silicone ones that give me the most problem.
And looking really close at some stamps, you can see there is a flaw in the material they've used, be it photopolymer or silicone.

  • Kimberly Scraps
Here is my take on Sketch #1
  • Njr007
    Good morning.

Late start and Roxy is not feeling well this morning. Dh is going to the hospital before heading to the shop so I don't have to be there til noon. They will be moving FIL to a skilled nursing facility that is 7 minutes from my house and I don't have to get on a highway. I am happy we found something close and can start a new routine that keeps me close to home.

Ro and Debbie I never got into the coloring. Also never did diamond art but I know so many people (my daughters included) that find it very therapeutic.

Lis I have a couple of stamps that don't stamp right and they are in a special drawer. I try them again every now and then but still have problems. They should go in the trash, but I keep hoping. I also "season" my stamps with my hands. Some take longer than others-it's frustrating to have a stamp in the Misti and even though it is anchored with the magnets it still pulls up the paper.
Also happy that your post went though, it is so frustrating when it disappears
Have fun working on the sketches ) emoji

Deanna I hope you start feeling better soon, I'm sorry you are going through a rough patch. Sending hugs your way, sound likes it been a rough few days.

Linda how are you doing? I hope you got a better nights sleep and not up at 2:30a

My husband gets upset when I raise my voice (NOT yelling-just a little higher!) and says don't yell at me, however there are times he is a total a$$ and thinks I should stand there and take it. I have learned to walk away and I stay away until he apologizes. It doesn't happen often but I will not be talked down to and he HATES the silent treatment. About half of our disagreements are about his constant talking. He talks ALL THE TIME. About anything and everything, most of it not relevant to our life and he repeats himself-ALOT. He stops a movie or TV show we are watching to tell me something useless he read about. He tells me what the doctor said and I remind him "I know-I was there"! We have been in the car traveling somewhere and I will have my pillow and headphones in with my eyes closed and he will be talking! Then he will say I told you about that and I just tell him it got lost in all the noise because he talks all the time-arguement! Okay, I realize I sometimes poke the bear grimacing_face emoji

Going to see if I can get Roxy to go for a walk, as I said she is not feeling well, I could hear her tummy and she refused breakfast.

    Have a great day

    Norma

I agree with Kimberly, I learned all about "Seasoning" my stamps when I was with CTMH. I now do it with every stamp that is new before I use it.
I've also found that some stamps will just naturally stain with certain ink colors and no amount of stamp cleaner or scrubbing has removed the stains from my stamps.
Also using my Misti has helped me get clear complete stamped images. There were a few times that some of my new stamps were just damaged which caused incomplete images and I needed them replaced. Thankfully I had been fortunate to get them replaced, especially with SBC.
    Good Luck!

I seem to have done something to my gallery where for me personally, I do not see a spot to add comments on my two latest projects.
I re-took a picture of one of them and somehow or another. It changed things so if you don't see a place to leave a comment, I'm gonna have to look into that.

Hi Deanna. I dont know what procedure youre having done but I hope it all goes well for you.

You girls having trouble with your stamps...I dont know alot but Ive never used an erasure on mine. I do practice a couple times before stamping my projects. Ive had lots of stamps that dont give me a whole image. When I have that problem, I use an extra layer of paper mostly just under the area thats an issue. I usually can slip it under there while its still in place on the platform. With block stamps I use a very thin piece of white foam thats often used in packaging. I have a couple diff thicknesses just for that reason. When I first started using a stamp platform I had problems with the paper lifting so I bought more of the little magnets. Sometimes that doesnt help or sometimes theres not enough space for those extra magnets. I no longer use the magnets, I use easy release tapes to hold my paper down while stamping nerd emojiRo

Norma, Id like to see what it would be like to have a husband that likes to talk! Doug is a man of very few words. Its only the two of us and sometimes we go for hours without saying more that two or three words. Hes so boring!! I do most of the talking about things he couldnt care less about but he doesnt care about much except for machines, guns, salvaging junk and politics. I talk alot about crafting and other things I do and also the people I know (usually nothing too personal tho) He doesnt keep friends and he doesnt care to get to know people, they often come with problems or they talk too much for his liking. We are soo opposite!
