Jenni, just got your post about what happened last night.

I've had to let go of any expectations for Valentines, birthdays, Mother's Day, etc. Dh manages to always say or do something that brings it down. Now I think I'm the one bringing it down. I started to make him a card but realized that if he didn't get me one, I'd have to hear him whine and apologize the rest of the day about that oversight. So I just didn't do any thing Valentiney.

Kept things light and fun as I could under the situation.

We did watch two episodes of Eureka last night with our son after MIL left. Dh now seems to think it's a competition to figure out what's going on before me or ds. So I let him has his fun while keeping my mouth shut as much as I was able to.

Any plans for tomorrow, Jenni?

Thumpy needs a smack! or a time-out. He's coming in and looking for the bag now. I'll have to figure out a way to discourage this while encouraging him to like us.

That said, I LOVE my toaster oven. I have done everything in it: toast, bake, broil. At Christmas, I have the toaster oven AND the big oven going and get my cookies baked in half the time. And you can't tell which ones I baked in which oven, either. Mom and Dad got it for us a couple of Christmases ago. Their big gifts to us at Christmas are usually kitchen gadgets since they are truly shared: I use them to cook with and Jeremy and the kids eat what I cook.

I was sharing my blood test results (quite important findings there) with DH last nite and he was still on his computer, processing photos...

So I said, hey, if I need surgery, I'll make sure I pick a hospital with Wi-Fi... forget about hospital care... Wi-Fi is the # 1 priority!

Boy, did I get his attention!

DD when she was around 3 yo, had projectile vomiting. She was in a long hall way and managed to puke both ways. I had to walk through it to get to her and take her to the bathroom. While I cleaned her (and myself) up, my x cleaned the hallway. She was really in a state of shock. I told her, she was gonna be just fine. That's when she asked if she was gonna die now. She thought after all her inners were thrown out, she was supposed to die. I laughed and hugged on her. I told her, no, she was ate something that didn't agree with her or was just sick.

Funny thing was, that was it. No other symptoms, no fevers or more vomiting. She was her normal self except for the hallway "incident."

She brings that story up from time to time.

I don't know what to fix tonight for dinner. I bought a nice head of napa cabbage that I want to do something with. Just what though?

Basically you use boiled water and enough Jell-O to give it flavor. Maybe 1 tsp per 2 oz of water? (I just dumped it in until it "looked right.") In a way, it's like Kool-Aid, only without the sugar.

It's what we used with my sister when she was a baby and would have bouts like this. I asked our pedi about it for Ethan when he was about 7 months old and had a HORRIBLE round of the runs. Everything went straight through him and blew out the other end. *sigh* Pedi said that Jell-O water is the old method; Pedialyte is what they do now. But if you don't have Pedialyte in the house and you do have some flavor of Jell-O sitting in the pantry, it could work in a pinch. *HUG*

This is why I always hand carry labs/imaging films extra into the dr office myself. I work in the field and it's a constant problem. I call a dr office for someone labs and they tell me, "We already faxed it to you." I thank them for telling me something I did not know, but could they please refax."

Wait a minute. She was going to come home so we could go out for dinner. But we're going out for dinner tonight instead. So there's no need for her to hurry back tomorrow. And if I go, we'll have to take DGS with us, and I'd end up watching him and trying to keep him out of all the dre$$e$. So maybe I won't have to go after all. In which case, it'll be a typical Saturday.

Today is supposed to be my "special" day. Took DGS to a friend's house around 10 this morning. Came home, watched TV for an hour, caught up here. Had lunch. Finished my report for work. Now I'm gonna go take a shower and probably scrap for an hour and a half. Or maybe sleep. Haven't decided yet. Just having a quiet house to myself is a treat.

I wonder if dh is up to going out tonight for dinner? Then I can buy some V-day decorations and not have to drive. I think I'll bring up this. He offered to take me out for lunch yesterday but I really wasn't in the mood for going out or for Chinese buffet.

No, I haven't been to Facebook yet today. Thanks to our VeggieTales chat last night, I did a search on YouTube and I'm watching Silly Songs With Larry on YouTube.

Had an email from my feuding father a little bit ago.

We got new pics taken of DD & DGS a few weeks ago. I sent a couple to my sister, with a spare for my dad "in case he wanted it." (It was really quite a decision for me - do I send it and make him think the ice is thawing? Or do I not send it and make the overall situation worse? So I sent it.)

His email said he was just getting ready to drop me a note to let me know a bday card is or soon will be in the mail with "a little something" in it. And - what a coincidence - sister showed up with a picture of the most handsome grandson (actually great-grandson) he has, and a pretty granddaughter, too. Said he's selling his duplexes. Wants to get out of the business. Not sure what else he wants to do. Hopes things are going well for me with the teaching thing. (Which has been a wash-out so far, for anyone who's keeping track.) Always hoped all his kids would end up with professional degrees that we would use. (Um? What do you consider a MS in Counseling to be?)

But still no apology for DD. No mention of what started the problems in the first place. (For those of you who are fairly new here...it's a long story. PM me if you're curious.) Just trying to pick up and carry on as if nothing happened.

And I honestly don't know how long to stand my ground and insist on the apology or when to say tohellwithit and let him get away with acting like nothing happened.

I think I'm gonna go get a hot shower. Maybe it'll work for me as well as it did for Ria.

Jenni, life is too short for holding onto grudges or any sort no matter how right you are. I have to keep very clear boundaries with both my parents as they can be very toxic people. It is a real juggling act for me at times, too.

I can't expect these two totally dysfunctional seniors to ever understand the damage they've done or could do. I just draw the line that they are never to cross with me or mine.

My mother is never to belittle womanhood or females as was the norm in her culture and time. I will not have my dd influenced that way. She's kept to that after I made it clear. Never got an apology for the damage she did to me. Never asked for it. She had the same things crammed down her throat.

As to my father, if my mother was to die first, I'd not have any contact with him again. Harsh but true. I'm respectful for my mother's sake. He's a lost cause beyond praying for as far as I'm concerned.

So it really comes down to what's most important to your own family's dynamics. Will he do this again? Can you just tell him that if was to do that again, there will be reconciliation? What can you live with?

Oh, when I said, "He's a lost cause beyond praying for as far as I'm concerned." I mean that I do pray for him but that's all. I just want to line up my own heart and desires right with God but I do have no hope for my father. I waffle between is he really mental or evil. So I pray for him but beyond that I consider him a lost cause.
