Any medieval/renaissance scrapbooking materials?

Hi everyone! I love going to renaissance faires and festivals! I love scrapping my photos from them nearly as much. I'm looking for any type of backgrounds, embellishments, etc. that might go along with this. I have plenty of cutesy fairy/unicorn/magician stuff, but I was hoping to find something more like tapestry background or something like that. I was thinking if I could get some basic elements, I could always add ribbon, floral embellishments, or 'favors' to the mix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or if you have a ren faire or renaissance wedding layout I'd be so happy to see it!

It might look kind of neat if you took 2 different jewel/deep tone colors of card stock (emerald or hunter green with a nice amethyst/deep purple-plum, for example) and cut out a bunch of diamonds all the same size. Then you could set them only a coordianting color paper (I'm picturing gold, but white or ivory would work fine) into a checkerboard type design with the diamonds going vertically. I hope you know what I'm tryign to describe here....

Anyway, this could be used as a background or use lay them down as a border. It's not very renaissance-ish in the sense that it's not a person or an object, but the colors and the design would work well to support other things.

Have you tried using any velvet on your pages? Small swatches of the might look neat too.

Thanks, Laurel! That's a great idea. Since the pictures tend to have so much going on in them for these events, I think it might look nice to go more with a theme like you described.

Beats me on the application... I haven't tried fabric myself, I just know that others have. You might need to hem the velvet so it doesn't fray. You could try searching in the gallery for "fabric" and see how others did it. I'm pretty new at this, but every once in a while the creative juices get moving.

You can also find lots of metal embellishments that look like pewter, which would be perfect for that look, as well as gold/brass stuff. It all depends on the look of the page and what's in the pictures.

For Fabric swatches, I've used eyelets. I'm not a big eyelet fan... I'm lazy, but for that it works nicely.

Quikutz makes a little castle diecut. I think it is supposed to be a sandcastle, but I have used it for doing the Renn Faire stuff.

k and co has some velvet flocked tapestry-esque paper you might try.

Oxford Impressions sells some neat medieval stamps. I bought some to go with a layout I did of a castle we visited.

Blue Cardigan has a line of paper based on the Old Masters of painting -- Pre-raphaelite, impressionists, etc. You might can find something that would work. The pre-raephaelite period would be my first suggestion. If you need a website, pm me and I will send you the one that I use that has these papers.

Thanks for the reminder about these--I've seen them before but didn't realize I'd be doing ren faire pages at the time! Sometimes all it takes is a jog for the memory. I remember the LSS in which I saw them, too!

I've since 'borrowed' some of my friend's eyelets and they do work very nicely for fabric. Depending on the fabric (and if it's transparent), even double-sided tape seems to be working, too.
