Ria - happy for you that you got off early (if you can call 8.5 hours of work early)! Way to go...........

At least today when I mentioned to DD that she might need to use some of her savings to help pay for school along the way, it was the first time I got an "I know" response instead of "But I wanted to use that money for a car!"

    Sounds like she's maturing!

Oh, tell me he wasn't dumb enough to say that!!!! I had a boss who said something similar to me.......I resigned shortly after that!!!

I know.. but it's a cultural thing.. I'm from Asia and I've known some bosses like that. He's from Asia too.

However, my boss also told me some stuff that's contradictory. I am starting to wonder if the situation is somewhat exaggerated to 'encourage' me to work more hours.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't realize that cultural differences came in to play.

Yes, it may be a ploy....you will do what is right for you and your family. When all is said and done family is what it's all about.

Well it is off to bed for me. DD finally went to sleep, not sure if it was because she was apprehensive about starting at a new school in the a.m. or some other issue but she was up until after midnite.

Starting a new school is hard. I hope she had a good day today!

Sometimes I just wanna smack her with a big stick. She wouldn't even discuss school with me. It was also her b/f b-day and all they do is argue or she cries when they talk on the phone. He turned 18, wants to have adult privilidges but not any of the responsibilities. I hope she gets over him soon!!!!!!

Sometimes, you just need to give them some space (within reason) and pray they make the right choice.

Morning everyone! Well, the public parts of my house is clean so today's plan is to tackle the bedroom and my scraproom. I have to go grocery shopping and depending on how I'm feeling...set up my silhouette.

One of my bears, Wilcox, needs surgery. One of his felt paw pads is starting to wear through, so before an actual hole starts, I need to open up his leg, reinforce the paw from the inside and stitch him up again. He's very upset about this. I'm going to wait until Abby can be my nurse and John can take pictures for the Bear Album that I've been working on.

    to Wilcox.

I was thinking about this last night while watching the news. Mattel has another recall of toys because of lead paint.
Had they not outsourced the manufacturing, none of that would have been necessary!

You are so right, Shirley!!!! I am livid, just thinking about the dangers the little ones may be in

It's cool up here today. I should bake something or cook a bunch of things today and take advantage of the weather. I'll get up early tomorrow and cook a bunch of things so I won't have to later. Especially since it's a child-free weekend for us. I think Saturday's dinner will be hors d'oeuvres and beer. Maybe nachos.

It will be so nice for you and John to have some quit time.

Oh, Liz, you should take that right or left brain test thingie. It's in NSBR forum.

I'm 56% left brain and 44% right brain.

Connie Podesta was the keynote speaker at Showcase. She has a personality quiz which seperates people into four categories: circles, squares, triangles and squiggles. Based on her evaluations I'm a squiggley triangle. She does a great job with her talk and we all went around the rest of the trip calling each other by their shapes. conniepodesta.com if you're interested in what she has to say.

I would have love to have been involved in that. Thanks for the website. Will be checking it out!

It is true.. because US factories have systems to check for these things. There will be incoming that inspects raw material for precisely these violations, however, with $ cutting and all that, I've actually listened to some senior mgmt cut corners in these things (inspections, tests). Meanwhile, executives have paid for 'meetings' in Maui, Hawaii.

While we're talking about this ..turns out the factory that was making these toys was in China, and owned by a Hong Kong businessman. He's actually a very nice owner, not a slave-driver (not those who lock workers in, KWIM). The workers loved him. But he's not a system-driven guy, he bought his paint from his 'friend' who told him they were leadless. So now Mattel is suing him for a lot of $$, and he committed suicide. I'm sure his 'friend' is going to sell his claimed 'leadless' paint to other factories.

I feel sorry for him. The lack of inspection and a wrong sense of "loyalty to friend" essentially killed him and possibly exposed many children to lead paint. It is a tragedy caused by his 'friend', but the other guy is unpunished. Maybe his justice is served on judgment day.

Shirley, I saw that report! My heart went out to him as it was so tragic.

Okay, I'm here for a bit. I got woke up by the phone not once, but TWICE. I stayed up late last night finishing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and then Jeremy's phone woke me up at 8:30 am. No sooner did I get back to sleep, than my phone rang at 10am. (I'd set my alarm for 10:30 so I could get up and piddlefart around here for a bit before going to work.)

Turns out Lizzie isn't behaving, so Mom's bringing them home tonight. Rats. I was looking forward to one more hot bath by myself where I could shave...things...without Lizzie watching or banging on the door trying to get in. <sigh>

    Oh, Riaaaaaa....

Liz, have you contacted any of the hotels? Also you could participate in the day events that they have for Brides-to-be.

Now it's my turn to be talking to myself I wanted to catch up some prior to tonight.

I called to see how much it would be to get the two chairs stripped........OMG!....$200+. Soooo, I went and looked at them again this morning. I washed them all off last night and put them aside. Now that they have dried they aren't looking all that bad. I was able to remove than I thought. Soooooo, I am now going to strip some more, hopefully! I'm doing the rocker first. It should be all set up now.

Yeah, Ethan's medical should ALL be covered through the military. Has his dad put him in his DEERS? Jimmy did it for his boys. Even though he's not around to take him to the base to get it done. The mom's have a letter to get them on base & get them ID cards & everything set up.

See previous post about the birth certificate. However, if he IS getting shipped out, then it may be time to officially add him to the birth certificate. This is something we'll have to be thinking about when he's home this fall after AIT and before shipping out.

Jenni this is really a must do for so many reasons, reasons that I hope you never have to deal with. If something were to happen to Ethan's dad while he is gone there are benefits that would be helpful for raising Ethan. It is just so important. Also if for some reason the daddy needed to come home because of something with Ethan it will be easier with him on the b/c. And when he is old enough it will become important to him (even if he knows his dad) that his dad be listed on his b/c.

I agree. You must push for his name to be put on the birth certificate so that Ethan can have the medical insurance. If that does happen, make sure that he is on TriCare Prime, not jut regular TriCare.

If something ever happened to dh, and I was left husbandless, I wouldn't bother looking for another one.

John is the last man I'm going to be with. I don't want any other man, he's my soulmate. If he wasn't my soulmate, I know we would not be together today after some of the stuff he did when he was trying to figure out how to be part of this relationship. I tried to leave him many times, and I couldn't because everytime I tried, it felt like I was throwing out part of my soul.

I don't know if my scrubby is my soul mate. Could be but we've got each other pretty well trained and don't want to go through the training process again! I also think both of us would be hard to get along with with anyone else.

I kidded him about joining eHarmony, both of us and seeing if they'd match us. Probably not. But our relationship works for us, so I guess that's what matters.

Wow. I could have written this about DH and I.

The verdict is still out on whether I believe in soul mates or not.
