Monday, October 17th, 2011 – A calm day at sea. It was a formal night so we had dinner on the Lido deck so we wouldn't have to dress up. I had a lobster casserole dish and Bill had Beef Wellington.

Back in the cabin we found a towel animal and chocolates as well as an engraved card with the ships logo and “Holland America Line” in gold. The card says, “As Grand Voyage guests you will always need to keep your travel documents and money safe and sound. This unobtrusive Security Wallet will keep these valuables easily accessible and can be carried with you out of sight. Sure to last just like your cruise memories, a gift from your 2011 Grand Voyage Staff and Crew.”

Our security wallets are a nice neutral color with a logo of the ship and the words “2011 Grand Asia and Australia Voyage – ms Amterdam” embroidered in white. It has one large and two smaller pockets inside as well as 2 zippered pockets – one large and one small.”

The show looked interesting that night but since it was formal night, as well as Roaring 20's night, I was afraid people would be dressed up. While in the cabin, I slipped on my silver-lame full length gown and we headed for the theater. It was early so we stopped by the dining room to see it decorated for Roaring 20's night. All of the women were given black and white boas and the men were given black fedora hats with a white ribbon band like the 1920's gangsters used to wear. I can't believe Bill wore his hat and the boa went great with my dress!

After the show, still wearing my boa and Bill still wearing his hat, we went to the Roaring 20's party in the Crow's Nest (the big lounge which overlooks the front of the ship). The Crow's Nest was decorated beautifully – every inch of it, with the roaring 20's theme.

I asked some of the guests if Holland America always gives out such nice gifts. Apparently they give out a lot of gifts on the Grand Voyage and World Cruise every year – one or two items a week but not necessarily on all the smaller cruises.

Then back to our cabin to chill for the night.

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 - an uneventful sea day.
