The 12" LED SureCut Folding Rotary Paper Trimmer from Fiskars is a step above the rest. This revolutionary trimmer ensures cuts are exactly where you want them. When the cut rail is lowered, an LED light shows exactly where the blade will cut. It turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity to save battery life. The rotary blade cuts through as many as 12 sheets of paper at once, with no tearing or fanning. The 12" x 12" surface has a scale and grid cutting mat that won't fade over time. The trimmer folds for easy storage or travel. The expanded cut rail has an integrated smudge guard to hold materials in place without fingerprints. The cutting bar that protects the blade edge can be rotated four times to eliminate the need for frequent replacements. This trimmer uses Blade Style F. It comes with three AA batteries.
I love this trimmer - easy to use and cuts true every time. There were no instructions in the box about where to insert the batteries, or in what direction, but after hunting around, I finally found the battery storage and after trial and error, got them loaded in correctly. The guide light is a great help, although it would be nice if it had an on/off which because if you leave the guide down, the light stays on and would drain the batteries. I just have to remember to leave the cutting guide in the UP position when I'm not cutting.
Overall, it's a fantastic tool.
Love that this folds! Love that the cutting area has the LED light! Love that I can switch to a perforating blade!
Actually was on a roll this spring. Started upgrading my paper trimmers and ended up with three. Each one better than the previous purchase. This is the third and the best! Love it.
+++ Thumbs up!
As another reviewer stated, it takes a bit of practice. BUT once mastered, this trimmer ROCKS! I can trim off very small bits from my photos/papers or cut 12 x 12 sheets for cards with absolute accuracy. Have used for about a year now and only replaced blade once. Blades are cheap. The light helps see exactly where the blade will cut. This is my favorite trimmer by far and I've had a LOT!
It did take me a few days to get used to this, as you have to apply pressure to cut, but now I'm a pro at it. Love that is has a full 12" surface so no overhanging paper. I leave it open on my desk all the time. I am able to easily cut 3 pieces of bazzill cardstock at a time, which is great when doing large projects. Easily cut through the thicker glitter paper as well.
I've been using the same blade for 6 months and haven't had to replace it yet.
Definately a step up from my old small trimmer that only cut a sheet at a time.
I have a guillotine-style cutter, but I bought this one for greater accuracy! It is really easy to "read" and the blade is sharp enough to cut through more than one sheet at a time without slipping.
I got this trimmer to replace the smaller portable fiskars trimmer. First, it's big and solid - will sit on the desk and not move around, and it's easy to fold and store away (the flap with the blade has a "latch" so it's won't open when stored upright). second, the light is a bonus) it comes on and off automatically, it's nice to see exactly how you line up the papers. The blade is big and solid and I had no trouble using it, and it doesn't dull the paper like other blade styles, but you have to press hard all the way through, and maybe run a couple times. Minus: what you don't see on the photo is that there are no gauge marks close to the blade - so you can't line up 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch on the spot, one has to measure and mark first, then use the trimmer. Second minus is that the lip on the top and bottom does not go all the way to the blade - so you can't use it to line up and trim a thin strip of paper, only big sheets. Third, you can't see exact spot where the blade cuts horizontally - if you like to make partial cuts (not the entire 12" top to bottom, but from 1st inch to 11th), you have to guess where the blade is cutting.
overall, it's big and solid and it does the big job, but get something else for finer details.
I have several trimmers. My favorite ones are my Creative Memories 12 in trimmer because the magnetic strip locks my paper or photo in place and this Fisker's LED 12 in trimmer because I can see the cut line clearly. I also really like the fold out full size plate on the Fisker's. It's really sturdy and does not shift on my table. It takes a little pressure to cut through card stock.
I gave this 4 stars because it doesn't have horizontal measurements like my CM trimmer. The lines are there, but they aren't labeled. And, the CM trimmer has more variety of blades.
The surface is very slick and what I am cutting moves giving me crooked cuts and is very frustrating. It will be moved to my ever growing pile of discarded trimmers when the 18" Rotatrim I ordered soon arrives. Plus it goes through blades too quickly.
Only Pro: It folds for ease in storage.
