Orange but not the standard orange

Orange on the color wheel is smack in the middle between red and yellow… and Spiced Marmalade is not it. But that's a good thing. The standard orange is like the citrus fruit, super bright and obvious. This ink pad is just a tiny bit deeper and richer. Personally I think of this color as pumpkin which are orange but not the neon citrus version. If you go with that you can see how much of the Distress line goes better with a little Spiced Marmalade. The rusty vintage browns like tea dye, many of the blues (especially Stormy Sky), some of the greens (even Peacock Feathers), and the reds of course. This ink pad is a very good investment because it blends with so much without being monotone -- but it is a strong color so have some courage!

      Oranges are colors too!

I saw the Orange colored Distress Inks and thought OK! Glad I did, Beautiful colors alone and when used in combination with other colors it's almost unbelievable! This color works and I like it combined with the Dried Marigold and Brushed Corduroy (dark affect) or Mustard Seed and Scattered Straw for a Sunlight feel! This color also works well for dark pumpkin colors when the season arises.

      Spiced Marmalade

Such a beautiful vibrant orange color! I enjoy using this color with Dusty Concord and Mustard Seed to help create an eye popping effect.

    • Quite a bit on the yellow side.

I love how vibrant this color is. Out of all the colors that I own as of yet this is the brightest and most eye-catching of the bunch.

The reason I gave it only four stars is that while it looks to be as orange as orange can be on the lid, the ink itself has a very, very strong undertone of bright yellow and I wasn't expecting that at all. I know that's my fault, not Ranger's, but the surprise still irked me just a little bit. Neither it nor Dried Marigold have quite met my orangey expectations. I'm just really picky, I suppose.

That doesn't mean I don't love it, though. It's still a great color. I'm simply posting this review because I don't want someone else to get the wrong idea about it like I did.

      What can I say.....

I love Distress Inks.....all of them. They are so versatile and the fact that they react to water just takes the game to another level. I love old, vintage things and these inks allow me to take my work there. They make a perfect backdrop. Spice marmalade is a beautiful orange that allows you to change the depth of the color in the blink of an eye and it is one of my favorite all-time distress inks. I think I have used it in just about everthing I have done.

      Love the color

Tim Holtz inks ROCK! ;) love this color - have to say I use this one QUITE a bit - I love to sand & ink chipboard letters and I love how it will really seep into the sanded areas & you can still kinda wipe it off the shiny part leaving a two tone look :) great for inking edges too & not bad for regular stamping ;) love that the top comes compeletly off, rather than hinged like some pads :)

      Spiced Marmalade

My favorite shade of orange ink. I've had difficulty finding the regular sized ink pad that wasn't an oxide. Now if I could just find the same for Picked Raspberry!
